ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP)Ed Wang(notes) wants to make it big in China. To do so, the Buffalo Bills rookie offensive tackle knows he first has to make his mark in the NFL. At 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, Wang is already turning heads and upending stereotypes by becoming the first player with direct Chinese ancestry to be selected in the NFL draft last month. The son of former athletes in the Chinese Olympic program was selected in the fifth round out of Virginia Tech, realizing a childhood dream instilled by his disciplinarian parents growing up in Virginia. They prepared him well for challenges that lie ahead. Aside from making the Bills roster, hes more than ready to become the flag-bearer for the NFL in its bid to crack the Chinese Wall and bring American football to the lucrative market beyond. Theres no reason to beat around the bush and sidestep it, Wang said, referring to the buzz hes already generated in China, where hes been told his Bills jerseys are already on back order.

You liked that headline didn’t you.
The Bent One likes football?
“Disciplinarian” Chinese parents, who would have thought? LOL
I think this is a positive trend, we should see more of it as our World collides with an ever expanding Chinese influence. I was surprised to look up Yao Ming’s old basketball team and find that an American player I used to watch play with the Houston Rockets was on the team.
This is the type of thing that comes about with open trade.
Though I distrust the Chinese as much as anyone, protectionism and isolationism is the first thing towards World War. If we continue to see more integration, I think it will be a good thing for both sides. I think it will be beneficial to mainly the Chinese though, since the USA is already a ‘boiling pot’ with the freedom expression.
The WTO recently ruled against the Chinese limits on American media imports. The road does go both ways, and I think these type of trends will make conflict less likely in the future.
Let’s just hope that as Friedman describes “The Miracle of Chile,” we will also one day see The Miracle of China.
Yeh, this AP writer must have been trying to be funny! LOL - I am definitely going to try to send this to Leno!
"Aw, baby !"
OMG, that is just obscene. Thanks for killing the thread!
LOL
From the article:
We taught them that an athlete has to be disciplined, Robert Wang explained, also referring to younger son David, an offensive lineman who completed his freshman season at Virginia Tech. We told them, An athlete has to put in a lot of extra effort. Youre different than normal people. You have a big future.
It wasnt easy.
Ed Wang wasnt allowed to have a girlfriend until he earned a scholarship. He couldnt attend movies with his friends, or go over for sleepovers. And then there was waking up at 7 a.m. every Saturday to run sprints.
And hes grateful for it.
They really prepared me for everything, all the life challenges that Ive been through, he said. They told me, life wasnt easy. Nothing comes free. And I always took that with me. And its been a part of me ever since.
"WANG !"
I am not sure how the NFL exposing it’s Wang to the Chinese is going to help.
Yeah, I had the same reaction—Bubba on boondoggle—shows where our focus is—
(It’s safe to assume that ansel12;metesky;ATX 1985;fieldmarshaldj; and AM are all men?)
