I think this is a positive trend, we should see more of it as our World collides with an ever expanding Chinese influence. I was surprised to look up Yao Ming’s old basketball team and find that an American player I used to watch play with the Houston Rockets was on the team.
This is the type of thing that comes about with open trade.
Though I distrust the Chinese as much as anyone, protectionism and isolationism is the first thing towards World War. If we continue to see more integration, I think it will be a good thing for both sides. I think it will be beneficial to mainly the Chinese though, since the USA is already a ‘boiling pot’ with the freedom expression.
The WTO recently ruled against the Chinese limits on American media imports. The road does go both ways, and I think these type of trends will make conflict less likely in the future.
Let’s just hope that as Friedman describes “The Miracle of Chile,” we will also one day see The Miracle of China.
