Palin angers faithful with choice in California race

Sarah Palin has angered fans by endorsing former Hewlett Packard chief Carly Fiorina instead of a more conservative challenger in her bid to become the Republican candidate aiming to unseat California Senator Barbara Boxer.

Palin, a darling of the right-wing, announced on her Facebook page on Thursday that she was backing Fiorina as she attempts to win the Republican ticket for the election in California later this year.

The 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate said she was supporting Fiorina as a "Commonsense Conservative" on the basis of her "fiscal conservatism rooted in real life experience."

"We can trust Carly to do the right thing for America?s economy and to make the principled decisions she has throughout her professional career," Palin wrote in her endorsement.

However Palin's support has enraged supporters of California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, who view Fiorina as a RINO -- Republican In Name Only -- an epithet used by right-wingers to disparage pro-business candidates who do not always embrace socially conservative stances.

"Sorry, governor Palin, but Chuck DeVore is California's only conservative candidate for senator," one poster wrote.

"I'm very disappointed in you, Sarah. You should know better!!," another posted added.

If anything, this endorsement says to me she probably is running. Anyway you cut it, the Republican nominee does require support from some of the RINO establishment. Just remember who Ronald Reagan chose as his running mate.

Gov. Palin is no fool. She has very good political instincts. Like some of us have pointed out, the Republican nominee in this Senate race will need some support from the loony left. After all, this isn't the same California which Ronald Reagan was Governor of.

I like Devore, but I do believe Fiorina has the better chance at winning.

To those that disagree, you have every opportunity to still vote for Devore in the primary.

Fiorina supports offshore drilling, even after the spill.

“Former Hewlett-Packard chief Carly Fiorina said that despite the spill, she supports drilling off the coast of California.

“I believe offshore drilling is absolutely necessary,” she said. “We must take advantage of every source of energy in this country.”

Orange County State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore agreed.

“In fact, it was my bill last year that the state senate passed that would have opened up the first new offshore oil lease in, what, 40 years in California.”

Only former California Congressman Tom Campbell said no.

“I’ve always opposed putting new drilling platforms off the coast of California”.

You’ll vote for her because someone else said she is pro life? Have you any quotes from her that substaniate any of these claims. I think they’re false based on her history of attending global socialist forums and the Bush free traitor doctrine. Have at it.

"The endorsement has National Right to Life joining the California Pro-Life Council and the Susan B. Anthony List, two pro-life groups that are already siding with Fiorina."

Nothing could be further from the truth. I used to really like her and would have voted for her in a heart beat. Looks like that was misguided as well. She is slowly turning into just another republican party puppet.

Oh and I cant stand Romney. The conservative movement needs a real conservative to take charge and lead the this country out of this complete mess we are in.

The faithful will eventually get over it and/or learn to live with human fraility.

Do you ever get dizzy, writing spin like that?

I don’t know how many formal endorsements she has made, but if you are interested in which campaigns she gives money to, I have most of that.

Are those Fiorina’s words? Nope. What does SHE say? What has SHE done?

I think that we can assume that the National Right to Life, the California Pro-Life Council, and the Susan B. Anthony List probably looked into it a little.

it would not have hurt for Palin to have just waited it out

The only wait out available, was to not interfere with Tom Campbell's easy march to victory.

This is not a close race between three candidates, Devore's campaign never took off, and there are only weeks left before the end, Palin jumped in to see if she could boost Fiorina over the man that is openly campaigning as an anti-social conservative and rabid, anti-gunner.

What is interesting, is that while Tom Campbell is strolling to a win, many people are being led to believe that this is a race only involving Fiorina versus Devore. “Tom Campbell is making the case that his unorthodox issue profile makes him the strongest candidate to take on Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer this fall. Campbell supports abortion rights and gay marriage, and argues that Boxer’s greatest asset against either of his two Republican opponents, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, would be the state’s decidedly un-conservative social views. “She has always been able to move the debate over to the social issues. She will not be able to do that against me,” Campbell told POLITICO.”

Or maybe someone gave them some money.

Look, a person who has outsourced a chunk of California’s economy because she thinks the communist educated labor in china and india is better than ours, and who was a candidate to head the world bank a few years ago, is nothign but a global socialist. These people are bad for America and should not be granted power over us in our houses of government.

So go ahead and think that this ‘endorsement’ is worth the vote. The country will continue on its race to the third world bottom, because the global socialists want it to.

The last thing we need is another person willing to work within the staus quo. No more “architects”, where an exorcist is called for.

Agreed! See comment 18.

I didn’t think of the conspiracy/bribery angle for those three pro-life groups endorsing Fiorina, that is probably the simplest explanation.

Uh, note that it was a serious doubt, pukemaster Josh.

McCain I could see since it's a political payback.

Fiorina makes no sense at all.

Glad she supports Bachmann et al. She should stick to real conservatives, not ambitious narcissists like Carly.

Here is an exchange with Devore and Chris Matthews, it looks like Fiorina did not have any pro life differences with Devore, that Devore could point to.

Tom Campbell though is openly campaigning as being pro abortion.

MATTHEWS: Is Carly Fiorina pro-life, like you are?

DEVORE: Well, she says she is. She`s a fairly recent convert to the cause.

MATTHEWS: No,no, no, no. No, I don`t know — I don`t care what you — what you say she says. I`m asking you. Is she like you?

DEVORE: The difference is the track record. I have a track record and she doesn`t.

MATTHEWS: OK. Again, I`ll try the question by you. This is sort of an interesting show, where we ask a question...

DEVORE: Yes. No. Of course.

MATTHEWS: ... and somebody has to answer it. Is Carly Fiorina pro- life or not?

DEVORE: Again, she says she is.

MATTHEWS: No, you`re not answering — no, why...

DEVORE: I have the book (ph) to prove it. There`s a difference.

MATTHEWS: Well, why don`t you give me the difference between the BS we get on this show sometimes...

DEVORE: No, no!

MATTHEWS: ... and a truth-teller? Is your opponent — because this is a big fight out there. I want you to explain your position.

DEVORE: Chris — Chris, we don`t know.

MATTHEWS: You`re pro-life. Is your opponent? You don`t know?

DEVORE: We don`t know. She`s never had to vote on any of the issues. I`m a proven leader. She`s an unknown quantity. It`s as simple as that.

Has anyone ever heard Fiorina say “I am pro life”? Or did her political aides just say she is. Has she ever done anything that is pro life? Does she have children? Being a parent is very pro-life.

Chuck Devore has children. Does Fiorina?
