Palin angers faithful with choice in California race

Sarah Palin has angered fans by endorsing former Hewlett Packard chief Carly Fiorina instead of a more conservative challenger in her bid to become the Republican candidate aiming to unseat California Senator Barbara Boxer.

Palin, a darling of the right-wing, announced on her Facebook page on Thursday that she was backing Fiorina as she attempts to win the Republican ticket for the election in California later this year.

The 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate said she was supporting Fiorina as a "Commonsense Conservative" on the basis of her "fiscal conservatism rooted in real life experience."

"We can trust Carly to do the right thing for America?s economy and to make the principled decisions she has throughout her professional career," Palin wrote in her endorsement.

However Palin's support has enraged supporters of California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, who view Fiorina as a RINO -- Republican In Name Only -- an epithet used by right-wingers to disparage pro-business candidates who do not always embrace socially conservative stances.

"Sorry, governor Palin, but Chuck DeVore is California's only conservative candidate for senator," one poster wrote.

"I'm very disappointed in you, Sarah. You should know better!!," another posted added.

I think you need a healthy dose of no-spin:-)

Considering her brand of token conservatism, Palin’s endorsement is interesting to examine in light of the immigration debate. Despite Palin’s support for the law in Arizona and her rhetoric on tough immigration enforcement, her recent endorsement of certain candidates in border states might cloud certainty regarding her stance on the issue. In Arizona, where the recent strict immigration law was passed, Palin endorsed her former colleague John McCain over the more tough-on-immigration candidate J.D. Hayworth. Regarding McCain’s stance on immigration, Politico reports that he held a more lenient view on immigration until only recently.

She has a right to support whoever she wants. So some don’t like it, so what.

When you say some of her followers are engaged in a cult of personality, that is a shot both at her and at her supporters

Nah, just the latter.

Yes people have heard her say she is pro life, she is campaigning on it and made it clear when asked in 2008 on the McCain campaign trail, do you think that everyone, including Devore himself, is channeling all this through Indian shamans and seances?

Actually, Sarah Palin is Mitt Romney’s biggest challenger.

there is definitely a cult of personality here for Palin just like for Bush.

if you can’t see it then there is much I can do to change that

This pretty much seals her fate as a presidential candidate. I won’t vote for her now - that’s for sure.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Put me in the camp that's betting a run at the Oval Office is not on Sarah's agenda. I have no inside info but I'd be surprised if she runs.

I'm unfamiliar with California politicos but from what I can find this doesn't look like the God-awful endorsement that people want it to be.

So what. At least Carly HAS executive experience. She can say she ran a company. How many other people can say the same thing?

BTW, HP was mired in complacency when she took over. All they did was printers and entry-level computers. Carly tried to implement some changes and shake up the status quo but ran into negative public opinion about her by the heirs and shareholders who wanted to keep things the way they were. The company lost its innovative touch that it was known for before Carly took over.

CAluvdubya to SoCalPol

Went to a SD Republican dinner last night. Some of those attending who spoke were: Duncan D. Hunter, Darrell Issa, Gunny Pop’ and Roger Hedgecock.

They are not supporting DeVore. These are some of the influential Repubs in CA and they see that Fiorina is the chance to take out Boxer!

DeVore would have gone farther w/ fans had he not reacted like a child to Palin’s endorsement. I was going to vote DeVore in the primary but he acts so immature

Well considering Reagan passed Amnesty we shouldn't support a Reagan Conservative either.

All this nose picking is humorous. Who's left?

We can’t keep holding people up to an unattainable standard of ideological
or practical perfection and then tearing them down when they fail to meet it.

Thank you for posting what most of us think into context.
