Flame away.
Other reasons why they want an amnesty:
Slave labor force
Professional agitators
A new generation of civil rights “victims”
More reasons to tear down our society
Once you’ve conceded that amnesty will happen you’ve lost. By given any ground, you’ve framed the debate as to which concessions you’ll accept rather than the core concept of amnesty.
When the hangman is selecting rope, the victim doesn’t care if it’s silk or hemp. You’re negotiating for the type of rope.
Two years is not hardly long enough. The term for a senator is six years. Terms for representatives is two. President is four.
IF any bill passes, they should not be allowed to vote in any national election for at LEAST ten years and the same amount of time should pass before they can join a union. ANY union. Otherwise, they will use the two years you have proposed to organize for the first major election and we are toast.
LLS
Flame away? Sure.
I think that you don’t have any common sense. Grant any type of citizenship to criminal trespassers is just flat wrong. We need to be arresting them...not giving them citizenship and voting rights.
What the hell do you think they will vote for after 2 years?
The camel’s nose is already under the tent and you simply want the rest of it to follow.
We are in a WAR to save our American way of life and giving these people access to unearned citizenship is simply surrender and defeat.
Also if they do get amnesty at least the gubmint should try to insure that the illegals fake documents that they're going to use to meet the criteria are at least made in America.
Any other crimes committed would be automatic disqualification from ever being allowed legal entry. Ditto for those we have to deport ourselves.
*To this effect, I'd have no problem setting up a "hotline" system to provide them with transportation assistance back to the border.
The first thing you need to do is make sure Pence is not the one proposing the amnesty legislation:
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/pittsburgh/s_457867.html
His biggest strike in the illegal alien issue was in 2006 when he attempted to snatch defeat from the jaws victory with his late-in-the-game proposal that was nothing but a thinly disguised amnesty scheme.
Who knows where he stands on amnesty for illegals this year?
Yeah, make the lag time six years. That makes all the senators vulnerable (1/3 up for re-election every two years).
Illegal aliens are already voting all over the country because most states don’t require any kind of voter ID, and since Kennedy got a law passed many years ago so anyone can get registered as a voter when they get a drivers license.....your idea would have some merit except for this.
Here's some better ideas that do not reward people for breaking laws:
1) No illegal alien ever gets the ability to vote in America even if he dies here. Sorry but rewarding lawbreakers with the right to vote just causes more problems.
2) Any illegal showing up in an emergency room for free treatment, or for food stamps or school with their kids is deported (cut off our tax dollars to them)
3) illegals are not allowed to sue anonymously. If they sue an American in civil court they are picked up and deported in outside the courtroom.
And call the bill something noble sounding like “ The legal American citizen's protection act ”
I would be inclined to do the following: 1. Seal the border
2. Deport or imprison all illegals 3.Have an armed response to all who attempt to recross illegally.
DMV has nothing compared to Immigration/Naturalization civil servants.
I was thinking the same thing. No vote until you go through the whole procedure that you have to do legally and no voting for some number of years. Ask the pro amnesty people to show “good faith” and allay our suspicions about what their real goal is.
No. Amnesty. Period.
Anything that does not deport illegals is Amnesty.
Why don’t we just start an amnesty lottery?
I do not support any type of amnesty, not now, not ever. I am getting very hard line on the border issues, years of compromising with no follow-up or honesty on the part of the government to actually secure the border has brought me to that point. My father had a saying “if you give an inch they will take a mile” and that has been the case all through the years with our politicians. I am no longer willing to give an inch.
I understand your suggestion, hoosierRWC, but, I don’t want anymore “amnesty”. I thought when Ronald Reagan did this it was supposed to solve the problem. It did no such thing.
