INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Sen. Dan Coats surged back four other Republican Senate hopefuls to clinch the party's nomination Tuesday night.

GOP leaders had high hopes that Coats, a senator for about eight years in the 1990s, would be a shoo-in for the nomination. National Republicans have backed him since he launched his campaign in February, shortly before Democrat Evan Bayh made his surprise announcement that he wouldn't seek a third term.

Coats is our guy now. You had your chance in Indiana to get a real Conservative. No matter how bad the Republican is we must vote for them once the primary is over. We need control of the Senate!

I think too many people lumped him in with the Conservative Congress of the 1990’s and I will admit to that as well.

Lugar still has to go regardless. Nobody will run against that jerk it seems.

For the love of god this state dropped the ball again.

From what I saw if you combined Hostetler and Stutzman’s percentages you wind up with 52% versus Coats 40%. I don’t know if that means anything.

I think it means the GOP is stuck on stupid. We've only had 4 or 5 state primaries so far, so there's time to turn it around. We need to convince lesser candidates, those polling under 10% to show a little humility and drop out. Otherwise, this is going to keep happening.

You are correct, Lancey.

He was not the best candidate in the race, but he is no Graham, Snowe, or Collins.

He will win this seat (a net gain), and hold it until he retires. He will be a mostly reliable Conservative, though not perfect.

Good thing I don’t live in Indiana. I gave up voting for RINOs years ago.

Hostettler was only in it for the $. He had only raised $25,000 and had done zero campaigning.

What proof do you have Coats is RINO? Or are you just parroting what you have heard on this thread?

Coats Shepherds Harriet Myers Through the Senate

Dan Coats, Gun Control and the Indiana Senate Primary

Ginsburg vote returns to haunt Coats

Dan Coats, lobbyist for fat cats, plots Senate return

You can leave the thread now.

Personally I will take even a RINO over a slimy-liberal socialist democRAT who will rubber stamp Alisnsky disciple president Zero.

Except when it comes time to repeal Obamacare, it will be hard enough if we have dedicated conservatives.
