In a move likely to raise tensions between the two Churches, a group of Church of England bishops met last week with advisers of Pope Benedict XVI to set in motion steps that would allow priests to convert to Catholicism en masse. They are set to resign their orders in opposition to the introduction of women bishops and to lead an exodus of Anglican clerics to the Catholic Church despite Dr Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, urging them not to leave.

The Sunday Telegraph has learnt that bishops travelled to the Holy See last week to hold face to face discussions with senior members of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the most powerful of the Vatican's departments.

When a man is the head of your church there is bound to be trouble.

They need to make this crisis work for them, use Alinsky to tell the truth, that the Episcopal Church is no longer a faith, it is a secular humanist cult.

This can also help pull Catholicism out of it's current demonetization, It can stress the family values the Anglican clergy have and bring the catholic clergy back to its moral compass.

I think that the English Church has a problem with Paul 1:22 through 1:32, NKJ.

Uh oh! Watch out for beheadings on video, homicide bombings, human sacrifice while shouting "Jesus Lives!".

Do I really need a /sarc tag?

This is the key point, as I heard during our diocesan Synod this weekend: "the Papal offer made last year, which opened the doors for Anglicans to convert while retaining key elements of their tradition."

Their "tradition" (specifically: liturgy) is all they will retain of anything non-congruent with Rome. And even that will be altered (but for their sake hopefully by somebody with a better ear than whomever developed the Anglican Use rite). I'm not saying at all that their move is a Bad Thing, but from what I hear the particulars are not being very accurately reported.

Thanks to Fractal Trader for the ping.

As far as I am concerned, Anglicans who reject the Protestant Reformation’s contributions are not practicing “Reformed Catholicism” (which is what real Anglicanism is, anyway), so they SHOULD become Roman.

I surely hope all those who reject female priestesses and bishopresses will not swim the Tiber however—as there really are a few non-Roman conservative Anglicans left!

Honestly, it’s my experience among the new evangelical Anglican ACNA (CANA, AMiA, etc) types in the USA, that a majority quietly reject women in the priesthood or higher as well. The primary advocates of WO are baby-boomer types who never quite got over their indiscreet youthful rebellions...
