Hotshot sniper in one-and-a-half mile double kill Michael Smith
A BRITISH Army sniper has set a new sharpshooting distance record by killing two Taliban machinegunners in Afghanistan from more than 1 miles away.
Craig Harrison, a member of the Household Cavalry, killed the insurgents with consecutive shots even though they were 3,000ft beyond the most effective range of his rifle.
The first round hit a machinegunner in the stomach and killed him outright, said Harrison, a Corporal of Horse. He went straight down and didnt move.
The second insurgent grabbed the weapon and turned as my second shot hit him in the side. He went down, too. They were both dead.
The shooting which took place while Harrisons colleagues came under attack was at such extreme range that the 8.59mm bullets took almost three seconds to reach their target after leaving the barrel of the rifle at almost three times the speed of sound.

About 3228 fps at standard temp. (68 F) and pressure (30 inches of mercury). So probably a bit less if significantly above sea level.
I would add that this movie, ‘Shooter’, is based on the Stephen Hunter novel, NOT the book by that fake sniper, Jack Coughlin. Hunter could use a little consultation from real snipers himself, but at least he doesn’t claim to be one.
Yep, I own a model 94 bicentennial 30-30.
It is interesting that make the 1894 .450 Marlin.
Thanks for the link.
The 94 is not exactly a snipers rifle, but the .348 was a good bear gun if you were tough enough to shoot it.
“In a remarkable tour of duty, Harrison cheated death a few weeks later when a Taliban bullet pierced his helmet but was deflected away from his skull. He later broke both arms when his army vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb.”
That’s one tough Tommy!

Were you born in England?
yes sir
born and raised, moved over here after I left the military and I came legally unlike those others who disrespect this country and her laws
My kid got his great Grandfather's 30-30 that was built in 1896. Seems to shoot fine. I'm thinking about getting my own.
also now a proud gun toting, Christian straight American male
Glad you did, now we have to keep her free.
It is every citizens duty.
The world is full of them, and he is probably some fat, pimply faced ahole that never did anything noble. Their idea of “fighting for their country” is limited to pushing their way to the front of the welfare line, or wrestling for the last bag of potato chips.
I agree the enclaves of pakistani enclaves are sickening over there
world war two vets beaten for walking around and being told that this is not their area no more.
churches set on fire, vicars beaten, pubs firebombed, places where the police do not go and appease them. English and Brit lads killed for just being white and not muslim
if there is a lefty troll reading this and saying it ios not true will give you names wo have died from pakistani muslims then
no gun carry, no self protection unless you are a pakistani.
I could go on but I left the military, army and then marine commando’s after years of service and thought why did my mates die , why was I shot at , for this, for people sitting on their arse claiming welfare, for pakistani muslims to take over the country, to have no free speech
“I like stories with happy endings.
Happy ending and video would of been better.
forgot to add
there was a protest today to the Govt wanting Britain to be British and some of them were arrested, seem shouting death to UK etc is alright , but protesting to keep a country English speaking and christian is not alright
94 has always been a good brush gun. Very reliable.
I have mixed feelings about the big bore thing. Would love to own a custom 50BMG, but cannot tell you why I would want it.
It is interesting how sniper rifles have evolved. Saw discussion of this posted on FR a while ago about this.
