An Arizona sheriff is the latest person to speak out about the state's new immigration legislation, saying he does not plan to enforce the divisive law.
Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik calls Senate Bill 1070 a "stupid law" that will force officers to start profiling. He is one of the first local law enforcement officials to rebel against the law.
"We don't need to enforce it. It would be irresponsible in my opinion to put people in the Pima County Jail at the taxpayers expense when i can give them to the Border Patrol," Dupnik said.
The Sheriff admits he could get sued for failing to obey the law, but says that's a risk he's willing to take.
The controversial bill was signed into law by Gov. Jan Brewer last Friday.
Since last week, local and national figures have spoken out about SB 1070, which requires police to question people about their immigration status -- including asking for identification -- if they suspect someone is in the country illegally.
The law also toughens restrictions on hiring illegal immigrants for day labor and knowingly transporting them.
ABC15 has learned that pop star Shakira is plannning a visit to the Valley this week to speak with officials about the legislation.

Oh, no! Shakira is coming. Look busy.
LOL WHT is Shakira
Apparently, there are people who believe her opinions carry more weight than a body count of dead Americans at the hands of illegal aliens.
I believe he is why firing squads were invented!
How do these idiots get elected?
***Councilman Claude Mattox said he is one of those against a lawsuit right now.
“This country and this state was founded on the principle that the minority on any agreement would be protected and respected,” he said. “Those that started this country were being persecuted in other countries, came here as a minority.”***
Yep, we all know that King George respected and protected the founding fathers when they came here as a minority. /s
Quit braggin'
Bad news for Pima County, great news for the rest of the state. All the illegal alien criminals and freeloaders will flock to Pima now.
Reassign him to a desk job.
So, if a local sheriff decides that the laws against bank robbery are “stupid”, does that mean he doesn’t have to enforce them, either?
Regards . . . Penny
When it becomes perfectly clear that the federal govt has no interest in defending our border against invasion, it becomes clear where this will end, and who will be in charge in the future.
Sheriff Quisling is merely preparing for the future that he sees coming.
Like the senior police officer in this photo, giving the "hermano" grip to the senior Brown Beret at the left of this photo I took in 2006 in San Diego.
Think cops like this are going after illegals? Think again.

Does she live in Arizona? If not, why would they waste their time with her at all (Unless it's for a quick lay? If a woman acts like a whore then she should expect to be treated like a whore)
“It would be irresponsible in my opinion to put people in the Pima County Jail at the taxpayers expense when i can give them to the Border Patrol”
Ok, so which is it? Is it that he doesn’t like it because it’s profiling? Or that it’s irresponsible to house them? Because if you saying you aren’t going to do it from the asking them if they are legal end, then giving them to Border Patrol isn’t an issue. If it’s a matter of not wanting to put them in your jail (which I honestly think he knows Border Patrol won’t pick them up and they will be sitting there indefinitely and local jails will become indefinite illegal alien housing units) then I almost understand.
The question is will the Feds support the ones picked up and I’m afraid they won’t.
This whole thing is a mess. And ironically, as stupid as the ones saying “This is like GESTAPO!!!”, there are plenty of liberals who are blaming Obama for the law. They recognize the border isn’t being policed.
I know I have sent several articles from NYT written back in March of 2009 discussing the crimes of the drug and people smuggling cartels and they are like “I’d be ticked off too!”
This may blow up on Obama like his “I don’t know what the police did, but they acted stupidly” crap he pulled last year.

Fire him, immediately. You cannot selectively apply the laws - down that path lies lawlessness.
No, for making that public statement that he would not enforce the laws - I’d fire him immediately. As in, just as fast as I could get his backside on the phone. In a perfect world, his cell would ring before he left the podium/press conference and he could announce his self-selection back into the employment pool right them.
When peace officers and the courts refuse to enforce the law or enforce laws selectively, we cease being a nation of laws and become a nation of men. Such odious actions have vast, unintended concequences.
I have no words.
“Bad news for Pima County, great news for the rest of the state. All the illegal alien criminals and freeloaders will flock to Pima now.”
It’s already a hell hole here. The libs and commies run everything. Everyone I work with is a commie.
