In Search Of... Noah's Flood (Part 1 of 3) Nimoy
I loved that show even though it really creeped me out!
True, but 5000 years is a short time for that sort of thing.
Separate the continents, push up the land mass, there is plenty of room for water to go...
I don't think so. If it was 13000 feet up on that mountain, then it was 13000 feet higher all around the world. If you shaved all the land off at sea level and then distributed it all into the ocean, would it rise 13000 feet? I don't think so.
Noah was a fisherman by trade and finally, after many years, he got to buy a big boat.
His wife Mary wasn't really happy about it because she had to give up a washing machine and a new fridge....which back then was a bigger rock by the river and a hole in the glacier at the top of the mountain.
Nevertheless, the boat made Noah happy except for her daily nagging about the washing machine and fridge.
After about a year, on a cloudy night, with flashes of lightening in the distance, Noah went to the shore to tie down his boat (or so he told Mary). But it wasn't the real reason he went to the boat (as he did every Friday). It was poker night and the boys were waiting.
Noah complained about Mary with a passion that night. Matt said he had never seen him in such a rage. Mark said you could see fire in his eyes. Luke said he was talking about leaving Mary. And John said he stayed and helped him rig the boat for sail despite the weather.
According to John, Noah had already stocked the boat...a couple of chickens, a couple of baby pigs and his fishing gear.
John watched as Noah set sail, knowing that his friend would never return to Mary. The rough seas of marriage had done him in.
He eventually landed on a small island where he met Rebecca who thought he was really, really rich because he had a biiiiiig boat.
When she complained because he would not buy her a new washer or fridge, Noah became incensed.
On Friday, as he always did, he went to the boat. It was poker night...
I'd like to think there are more saved people here than in the general population.
My "guesstimate" is that there's about 20% (maybe 30%) of the current population saved, per the Gospel according to Scripture -- here in this country. In the rest of the world, I would say about 10-15% maybe.
BUT, when I said that many would be speaking to some of those we have read about in the Bible -- I was thinking about the Millennial Kingdom of the Messiah of Israel -- that world-wide kingdom, for a 1,000 years in which people will be building homes and growing crops and raising families and there is no more war in the world and it's a righteous government over the entire globe. During that Millennial Kingdom, you will probably see more saved people (those who are born and grow up in that Kingdom) -- than the sum total of the entire world population from creation until now.
So, I was thinking about that time.
I don't think anyone is saying that Christians cannot be scientists.
But to describe oneself as an "evangelical explorer" is certainly a tip-off that science is not the top agenda item...
I’m not sure they characterized themselves that way. But I am sure they will be characterized as such to discredit any findings they may have made.
Interesting. I concur re the Gilgamesh side, but I'm ignorant regarding Eden variants. Can you point me to any good sources?
seems to me Leonard Nimoy found it there in an episode of “In Search Of...” 30 years ago
Ski Lodge.

It's OK that you don't know sarcasm when you see it ;)
See post 41. Bill Cosby's bit on Noah's ark contains the line: "What's a cubit?" When God tells Noah to build the Ark...and then gives the dimensions...that's what Noah asks.
The whole albumn is "One of the funniest comedy albums of all time."
I’m also looking forward to a few beers with Noah.
So Noah, Jonah, Patrick Henry and RadiationRomeo go into this bar....
One of the things that has intrigued me is the fact that God sent a rainbow as a sign after the flood. Apparently this was a unique event.
Perhaps there had never been rainbows before and therefore no rain or water vapor in the air until the flood. I wonder about that.
I don't think so. If it was 13000 feet up on that mountain, then it was 13000 feet higher all around the world. If you shaved all the land off at sea level and then distributed it all into the ocean, would it rise 13000 feet? I don't think so.
It sounds like you might benefit from some of those articles from various scientists talking about these matters in a couple of websites that have been around for quite a while and represent some good thinking on these things...
And, Answers in Genesis has built a great museum near Cincinnati (but in Kentucky)...
WELCOME AND PREPARE TO BELIEVE
The state-of-the-art 70,000 square foot museum brings the pages of the Bible to life, casting its characters and animals in dynamic form and placing them in familiar settings. Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden. Children play and dinosaurs roam near Edens Rivers. The serpent coils cunningly in the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Majestic murals, great masterpieces brimming with pulsating colors and details, provide a backdrop for many of the settings.
Thats my assumption, I figure it came to rest somewhere along the Black Sea coast of Georgia. I'm going to guess that this was a monastery or something.
If this turns out to be the ark, it would certainly be exciting, and it would very much surprise me.
