“Obama” is apparently a word that translates into “What I REALLY meant was...” in English.

President Barack Obama suggested Wednesday that a new value-added tax on [SOME] Americans is still on the tableTen bucks sez only "select" Americans will end up paying...you know, the dwindling number of Americans who actually PAY taxes any more in this country...

“Before deciding what revenue options are best for dealing with the deficit and the economy,”
Gosh, that sounds like “revenue enhancement” already is a done deal. Chris Christie didn’t need to review all his revenue options because he took a completely difference strategic approach to the problem he faced. He is bound and determined to close a massive budget gap entirely through spending cuts rather than trying to soak the taxpayers even more.
Thus, Obama can hem and haw and actual casual about whether he will or won’t endorse a VAT, but his answer to the question suggests he’s not thinking about the deficit problem the way Chris Christie did. This is why we need housecleaning next fall. Bill Clinton boasts about turning around the budget to create a stream of surpluses that would have wiped out our entire deficit. But he never mentions that it was Republican majority in Congress elected in 1994 that held his feet to the fire on spending and forced him into these balanced budgets. It’s pretty clear Obama won’t change his thinking on such matters without a lot of “prodding” by Congress.

Oh, please, please.....
Propose a VAT tax. Enact it into law quickly, before November.
It will be the end of Democrats in the House, and cripple them in the Senate.

haha! love it.
The commission will recommend a VAT, and Obie will say that he is acting upon the advice of learned elders.
What will Americans do?
My bet - nothing.

The attitude inside the administration with respect to a VAT is not “if”, it’s just “when.”

Even the dems in the senate aren't stupid enough to push this. Last week McCain attached a sense of the senate resolution to the Unemployment Extension bill saying that the senate did not support a VAT. The resolution passed 85 to 13. Obama is to the left of 3/4 of his own party on this issue.

Liar, yes, but I'd suggest that both a consumption tax and a carbon tax are essential if we're to at least maintain a Euro standard of living.
When discussing these issues with democrats whose minds are open, I suggest the nation should follow the Obama "model" of transparency.
Rather than a VAT, a monstrosity to administer, we should adopt a national sales tax, in the 10%-15% range. Rather than Cap and Trade, a gasoline tax in the 25 to 20 cents per gallon range would suffice, I'm told. I go with 30 to 50 cents, myself.
These taxes are necessary if our children and grandchildren are to enjoy the benefits of cradle to grave government supervision of our lives our liberal bretheran desire.
It does get them thinking, even opens ears to alternatives, like maybe we don't need to nationalize health care after all.
Just a suggestion, but these taxes are necessary if the laws on the books today are still on the books five years from now.

VAT has always been part of Obama's calculations for his socialization of America. His minions been floating trial balloons since last spring. With Volcker (Reagan's former Fed Chairman) giving him cover last week, he's now going to try and hide behind this phony commission and then have Reid do his dirty work through reconciliation.
Senate Democrats' budget to allow use of reconciliation rules (here we go again...)
