When news of last weekend's assault of Republican campaign fundraiser Allee Bautsch and her boyfriend broke on Monday, police logs detailing crimes and complaints reported in the French Quarter that night did not list the attack on the pair.
That's because the April 9 incident was first labeled a medical call, which meant no police report needed to be written. Indeed, according to the initial report released Friday by New Orleans police, it wasn't until Monday that a detective was assigned to investigate the incident -- in which Bautsch broke her leg and her boyfriend, Joseph Brown, broke his jaw.
Monday was also the day news reports and blogs began chattering about the attack, sometimes laden with the juicy possibility the attackers were anti-Republican protesters.
The initial incident report does not resolve the question of whether Bautsch and Brown were attacked by protesters, who had picketed the restaurant they were in earlier that night.
But the sequence of the NOPD's response to an attack that left Bautsch with a broken leg and Brown with a fractured jaw and nose, raises questions about why the department didn't deal with the incident as an assault from the get-go. Subsequent police statements and reports about the incident note that officers did respond to the scene, calling an ambulance to take Bautsch and Brown to the hospital.
NOPD spokesman Bob Young said the explanation is simple: The responding officer didn't know the extent of the couple's injuries. That officer knew the couple needed help and was told that Brown had been in a fight, but concentrated on getting them medical assistance, he said.
If the officer had known how badly they were hurt, the case would have been reclassified immediately as some kind of battery, Young said.

From the article: “...Bautsch broke her leg ..”
Well, NO .. she didn’t break her leg. Her leg was broken. By thugs. In four places, requiring a rod and screws. She will have lifelong scars and pain. Can these reporters get anything straight? Nothing but damned excuse makers. Tho, one has to admit it has all the signs of your average NOLA street mugging. Can’t report that. Bad for tourism.
Good. Perhaps you then can tell us....when did Jindal talk to the Mayor, Chief of Police, state troopers or anyone else about marshaling resources to find the attackers?
Saturday? Sunday?? Monday??? Never?????
Keep in mind that a detective wasn't assigned till Monday afternoon....Exactly what was or has Jindal done? Please advise.
I disagree with your assessment of my post.
I would think by now Jindal’s chief fundraiser and her boyfriend would be talking! What’s with them?
NO. Jindal should have been at their side in the hospital swearing to reporters that the attackers would be tracked down to the ends of the Earth and shot like mad dogs!
Then he should have ripped the Democrat administration of NOLA for not providing adequate security. Instead he turned the other cheek. He should be on that police chief's corrupt ass to bring in a perp .. today. Sounds as if he was a SIEU import ... so there is plenty of film footage to review, security cam tapes, eyewitnesses.
NOLA is like Casablanca ... round up the usual suspects and get the info. Jindal also has the state police at his disposal. Bring in the bastards.
BTW, if any of you Jindal Fans out there have Presidential aspirations for this geek, just remember, NEITHER of his parents was a US Citizen at the time of his birth. He is not a "Natural Born Citizen," unless Team Obama wins the "Native=Natural" argument.
Jindal may well be an efficient accountant. Great. But he's not showing ANY leadership.
Does this sentence represent bias, or just journalistic incompetence. I rather doubt she broke her own leg or he broke his own jaw.
Jindal....another RINO who backs down to Liberals.....anyone who heard his reply to the 2009 State of the Union address knows Jindal is not the conservative poster boy some make him out to be
How do you know that isn't exactly what's happening?
Jindal is a governor. He doesn't have to make posturing "headline" statements to the microphones in order to get things done. He picks up a telephone and gives an order. Quietly.
It's easier to catch perps who aren't forewarned.
This is why we’ll never know what happened that night, and he Iron Rail Gang will get away with it, scott-free. Just like the SEIU beat-down, just like Don Adams back in the Clinton days.
I am more than disturbed by the lack of media attention. I had hoped Jindal would issue a stern statement and at least say that a thorough investigation was underway, ...that he had been advised of such by the proper authorities.
I’d say they are traumatized—and are also being advised by Jindal’s people and the police to say nothing.
I for one hope he's done that. Quietly and back-door works. However, 'cause a detective wasn't assigned to the case until late Monday, it doesn't appear Jindal had much clout if he did call.
Won’t be too long before Jindal will be back in North Louisiana for some event or other. I’ll be there to ask him questions - in front of a crowd of people.
Thank you for doing that.

Huh? From the way this is written it sounds like Bautsch broke her own leg and Brown broke his own jaw!
Marxist thugs broke Bautsch’s leg and Brown's jaw!
It’s easier to catch perps who aren’t forewarned.”
We expect our leaders to get out in front after something like this. This was not an ordinary mugging, but the violent attack of people exercising their political rights.
By this story’s account, they didn’t even start investigating until three days later and this was the Governor’s aide. Jindal obviously didn’t pick up the phone and give any orders quietly.
Something stinks here.
“They were transported in an ambulance as a result of an attack and the police didnt know they were hurt?”
This is what doesn’t make sense:
“That officer knew the couple needed help and was told that Brown had been in a fight, but concentrated on getting them medical assistance, he said.
If the officer had known how badly they were hurt, the case would have been reclassified immediately as some kind of battery,”
It’s commendable to concentrate on getting medical assistance, but what do extent of injuries have to do with it? It’s not battery until police are certain the leg is broken in 4 places? It would seem like any “fight” culminating in injuries sufficiently bad to require an ambulance ought to pretty easily reach the “battery” bar. This is especially true given that 2 people were left injured. It’s not like a minor fisticuffs that left one person with a bloody nose.
Moreover, there were two officers AT THE SCENE and the girl had said repeatedly through the attack that her leg was broken. It seems hard to believe this information was not conveyed to the officers. If there was any chance to intercept the attackers, it would have been that night—not 60 hours later. What’s particularly bizarre is that cops DID immediately open a theft investigation related to the incident. The police report makes for brutal reading:

Damn them for inflicting those horrible injuries on themselves!
Damn them to Hell!
