Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is taking political swipes from the right AND the left today.
The DN's Glenn Blain reports from the State Capitol that GOP Senate candidate David Malpass held the Albany launch of his campaign this morning and continued to attack Sen. Kirsten Gillibrands ties to the Global Strategy Group - one of the firms that reached a settlement yesterday with Attorney General Andrew Cuomo over its role in the pension fund scandal.
Malpass, in an obvious move to woo New Yorks Jewish voters, also broadened the attack to include Gillibrands silence regarding the Obama administrations Israel policy, Blain reports.
Global Strategies has been involved in the pension scandal and so what I would like to know is what does Sen. Gillibrand think about that? Malpass said. "Her close political advisors are involved in a pension scandal - is she going to sever ties? Is she going to do anything about it? - and yet theres really just the sound of silence and thats true of so many issues.
"As the Obama administration changes our position with Israel, to be less friendly with less toward Israel, where is she? She is not talking about it, not doing anything to stop it. She should be up in arms about that.
Hear more from Malpass -- and Democrat Jonathan Tasini -- after the jump, and read what Team Gillibrand has to say about this war on two fronts.
Malpass framed his candidacy around the need to stop the tax and spend culture of Washington and said he would start by not seeking or accepting any earmarks.
It sets a tone in Washington, Malpass explained. If you want to stop spending, you have to start tomorrow by saying no to wasteful spending.
At the other end of the political spectrum, Democratic challenger Jonathan Tasini used the news hook of the SEC's accusation that Goldman Sachs defrauded investors via conflicts of interests in its mortgage investments to question Gillibrand's campaign finances.
"I am calling on my opponent, Kirsten Gillibrand, to give back the $23,800 that she has received so far from Goldman Sachs contributors. According to OpenSecrets.org, my opponent is the number one Senate candidate recipient of Goldman Sachs cash in the country," Tasini said in a statement.
"As I said in January, when I first called on her to give back all the corrupting cash she is pocketing from Wall Street, banks and financial services, my opponent continues to pocket huge amounts of corporate-influenced cash, particularly from the elite bankers and financial manipulators who engineered the collapse of our economy, robbing Americans of their jobs, savings and retirement. By her actions, not words, my opponent stands side-by-side by the very corrupt interests who have hurt our country. "It is not a surprise that my opponent has refused to support the modest bank tax proposed by President Obama. She is in the pocket of Wall Streetand her bank account shows it."
Gillibrand spokesman Glen Caplin responds:
"The Attorney General has resolved the matter to his satisfaction and the issue is closed. Instead of partisan political attacks, David Malpass should explain his role in the financial meltdown he led as chief global economist for Bear Sterns that left taxpayers holding the bill. He made millions as new Yorkers lost their retirement savings, jobs and homes."
There is trouble brewing for New York Dems. Gillibrand and Schumer are especially in a alot of trouble. Obama should be because he has received more campaign contributions from Wallstreet than anyone.
Thanks to her, the taxpayers now have to subsidize grocery stores in the inner-cities. This will mean that other local businesses will be at a disadvantage.
The idea is that people cannot travel more than a mile to a grocery store.
Its absurd on its face.
That just so happens to be my favorite day of the year!
He’s really taking it to her. I like what I see so far.
Remember the “rubber stamp” charge during the Bush administration? Gillibrand actually has no mind of her own. Chuck U tells her how to vote, and she does it. All of her prior pretend positions are out the window. She truly is a puppet.
If true, then I’m PO’d - only ONE DAY?
The rest of the days of the year are still “Kirsten Gillibrand is Trash” days.
I can’t believe that no one is going after her that IDIOTIC grocery store proposal. What a brainless moron.
LOL - I didn’t realize
:’)
