Former President Bill Clinton said Friday that parallels exist between the mentality that inspired the 1995 bombing of an Oklahoma City federal building and today's anti-government attitudes.
In an interview with The New York Times, Clinton specifically targeted remarks made by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) at a Tea Party rally in Washington Thursday as problematic:
"There can be real consequences when what you say animates people who do things you would never do, Mr. Clinton said in an interview, saying that Timothy McVeigh, who carried out the Oklahoma City bombing, and those who assisted him, were profoundly alienated, disconnected people who bought into this militant antigovernment line.
The former president said the potential for stirring a violent response might be even greater now with the reach of the Internet and other common ways of communication that did not exist on April 19, 1995, when the building was struck.
"Because of the Internet, there is this vast echo chamber and our advocacy reaches into corners that never would have been possible before, said Mr. Clinton, who said political messages are now able to reach those who are both serious and seriously disturbed.
He will be delivering the keynote address Friday at an event about the Oklahoma City attack being sponsored by the Center for American Progress Action Fund and the Democratic Leadership Council.
Mr. Clinton pointed to remarks like those made Thursday by Representative Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota Republican, who when speaking at a Tea Party rally in Washington characterized the Obama administration and Democratic Congress as the gangster government.
They are not gangsters, Mr. Clinton said. They were elected. They are not doing anything they were not elected to do.
Tea Partiers held hundreds of rallies across the country on Thursday, which was Tax Day.
Clinton made his comments before appearing at a symposium about the 1995 bombing, which occurred during his first term in the White House.
Some Democrats, as well as Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, have warned that right-wing "extremists" could engage in acts of violence as a result of strong anti-government attitudes.

It was revenge for Desert Storm.
Even though he signed an Armistice with the Allies, he never stopped fighting the war caused by his invading Kuwait.
This was the reason Bush II went back to war - Saddam Hussein violated the Armistice. The MSM just ignored that reason, which was legal. Bush didn’t start a war; Saddam never stopped fighting the war!

Been warning about the bj clinton connection to abu since day one.
The libs are in hyserical, panic mode.
You betcha! LOL.
Yep, he tried to wrap it around Rush’s golden mike.
This is why I rarely use hyperlinks. Not only is it a simple matter to copy the links if you provide the actual url as opposed to a hyperlink, but most people probably want to know where the links are going before they click on them. Of course one can know by hovering their cursors over the hyperlink. But I doubt most people know this.
Clinton’s finest hour - the OKC bombing.
Prior to that his numbers were in the tank and he was well on the way to becoming an irrelevant one term failed president.
Then the OKC bombing occurred, he became the griever in chief, and quickly realized the political capital to be had by linking the bombing with his legitimate political enemies.
A normal person would be ashamed to use such a tragedy for such self-serving and deceptive ends.
But then again, clinton is not a normal person.
So like a 60’s or a 70’s band, getting together for a money-making encore performance, clinton gets out his number one hit song, and sings it just like he did then, to the delight of all the nostalgic fans present and to the disgust of anybody with a brain.
Clinton should read Jayna Davis’ Book; “The Third Terrorist”.
Last time I checked liberals were the ones defending terrorists...
Really, Clinton is just trying to save the DNC at this point, IMHO. If the DNC goes down with Obama so does any chance Hillary gets... He owes her that after Monica.
“He (Clinton) will be delivering the keynote address Friday at an event about the Oklahoma City attack being sponsored by the Center for American Progress Action Fund and the Democratic Leadership Council”
Paid for demagoguery. This man prevaricates with every breath.
Watch Bill Clinton closely. If he can find a way to manipulate someone into offing Obama - he will do it, to clear the path for Hillary.
Depends on what you want to do with the links.
You could just click and drag to copy the entire text area of his post where the links are, then go to your EMAIL (not the FR email, but your own INTERNET EMAIL), and PASTE the text into an email you send to yourself.
Then you not only have the text of the links which you can copy into a FR post when needed, but they are clickable links in your email and much easier to find than bookmarking this thread on FR.
Thanks for the ping
You’re right about that. Serial liar.
The politicians controlling our lives are just as pathetic as F rate TV actors.
Too bad he doesn’t bash the people who assaulted Bobby Jindals employee and her boyfriend.
Of course that would be bad for the democrats, they control the media and there has been little on the story so far. They have managed to keep it under wraps.
Just like Clinton to talk trash about others who are doing nothing except peaceful protest at what is clearly a growing socialist movement, while the liberals beat a man and woman on the streets. Another bites the finger of a tea party person off, and SEIU thugs assault people for speaking out against big government.
Who is promoting violence?
Liberals
Who Are being violent?
Liberals
Who gets the blame?
Conservatives.
Look at that snarling animal. It needs to be put down before it hurts someone.
Not at all surprising that a baby murderer wants to gang rape Sarah Palin.
