IRS May Withhold Tax Refunds To Enforce Health Insurance Mandate

By Martin Vaughan Dow Jones Newswires

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The Internal Revenue Service won't audit you to make sure you have purchased health insurance under provisions of the new health-care law--but it may withhold your tax refund if you can't demonstrate that you are insured, an IRS official said Thursday.

Steven T. Miller, IRS Deputy Commissioner for Services and Enforcement, made the comments during a hearing of the Senate Finance Committee. He echoed earlier comments by IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman that questions about health coverage won't in and of themselves lead to an IRS audit.

"There are tools we can use. We obviously will be notifying folks [for whom there is no record of health insurance] that we have these questions," said Miller. "We have a refund offset mechanism in order to enforce that provision."

Republicans on the Finance Committee including Sens. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Pat Roberts of Kansas, questioned whether the IRS will even have the ability to make sure the insurance mandate is enforced.

Under the new law, penalties for failure to purchase health insurance apply starting in 2014. By 2016, the penalty for lacking qualifying insurance is the greater of $695 per year, or 2.5% of household income up to $2,085.

What refund? I make sure I never get a refund. Why would I want to let them use my money interest free? Silly.

BINGO! It always amazes me how some people look forward to a refund. That is insanely stupid. They pay no interest to you, put that money in YOUR account, let it earn money for you, then pay them at the end of the year AFTER you take every legal deduction possible.

Exactly, can withhold if there is no refund due. If you are due a refund, you’re letting them take out too much. ... Wake up folk, fix your withholding/exempts ....

There goes the ‘out’ for all the suckers who thought they could just get away with paying the yearly penalty instead of getting coverage.

Yes, sure, they will get a pound of flesh with the VAT. But that doesn’t get them to buy insurance or pay the fines.

“The law doesn't authorize the IRS to impose liens or levies to collect the penalties. But it doesn't prevent the IRS from reducing a tax refund to collect the penalty, Miller said.”

Dumb statement! To withhold ones amount of tax refund is a a levy to collect the penalties.

By 2016, the IRS will be witholding 80% of your income anyway, and all refunds will be confiscated to pay the deficit.

Muslims are specifically exempted from the government mandate to purchase insurance, and also from the penalty tax for being uninsured. Muslims are specifically granted an exemption.

Non-muslims will be paying a tax to subsidize muslims.

This is Dhimmitude.

Dhimmitude is the muslim system of controlling non-muslim populations conquered through jihad. Specifically, it is the TAXING of non-muslims in exchange for tolerating their presence AND as a coercive means of converting conquered remnants to islam.
