Does Mr. Obama Care About India?
Disputes over Afghanistan, antiterror policies and diplomacy have soured the relationship.
By G. PARTHASARATHY
Very little was said publicly about U.S. President Barack Obama's meeting Sunday with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Blair House in Washington. That's probably because neither side wants to draw attention to just how strained this important bilateral relationship has become over the past year.
One of the biggest sticking points is how to deal with Afghanistan. The Obama administration has promised to "reconcile" with the Taliban and talks openly about U.S. troop withdrawals, commencing in 2011. Both points deeply disturb New Delhi, whose long history of dealing with terrorism suggests the U.S. approach won't work. The U.S. has also shunned advance consultations on Afghanistan with its Indian partners.
As a result, India is rethinking its approach, which it has long coordinated with Washington, and a review of Afghan policy is now underway. There are indications that New Delhi is going to hedge its bets and enhance contacts and cooperation with Russia and Afghanistan's neighbors of Iran, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, which share India's aversion for any return of the Taliban.
Another issue is how the U.S. and India will prosecute terrorists involved in the November 2008 attack on Mumbaisomething that was raised by Mr. Singh in Sunday's meeting.. ............
There is a distinct possibility that Lockheed Corporation will be ruled out as a contender for an $8 billion contract for the supply of 126 fighter aircraft for India because of its readiness to provide advanced F-16 jets to Pakistan.
The fact that President Obama didn't take questions from reporters after he left Sunday's meeting with Mr. Singh speaks volumes. What a change from the heady days of the Bush administration, when there was growing recognition in India about the

Hey New Delhi -- most Americans are on your side.
India and Israel are pals.....This pisses off Bammy to no end.
And he has the whole Pawkistawni thing going on.
India has no lurve for Iran or Pakistan...of course neither does Israel. I’d rather have India on my side nowadays rather than the USSA.
“Does Mr. Obama Care About India?”
That’s one of the stupidest questions I’ve heard all year... What, you think India is a Muslim country?
No. Hussein doesn’t give a damn about Israel, America’s best ally in the Middle East and he doesn’t give a damn about India, the world’s most populous democracy.
Hussein’s priority is to degenerate America’s power, kiss the hairy asses of terrorists, and bow to Communists.
Can you imagine how many of our old allies would be thrilled and relieved to see President Palin voted in to office?
Under GW, India saw us as a reliable friend. Under the “O”ssiah, India has to make other arrangements. Russia looks and probably is more reliable than “O”merica.
If you understand that Taliban is a Pakistani ISI project, India is drawing the conclusion that the butchers of Mumbai have won another one. A Texas sized piece of real estate is passing to the dark side of the board. AQ’s old headquarters is being ceded to Taliban control.
The Obamists will paint it in happy colors, our withdrawal and the Taliban’s return will be choreographed as a slow motion kabuki dance and celebrated as a great success because for him this will be a victory. Victory for O is not victory for America or the civilized world. To know that is to begin to grasp who this guy really is.
Interesting, use of MR. in the title.
Does Mr. Obama know the location of India would be a better question.
Where is hillary’s reset button again?
Well, he sure doesn’t care about the United States, so who cares if he cares about India!!!
Does anyone recognize a pattern here?
