The Southern Republican Leadership Conference Straw Poll doesn't carry a whole lot of weight, since it's skewed like most of these things by the makeup of the crowd, the intensity of Ron Paul's supporters and the ease of gaming the vote. For once, Politico has it right.

Can’t explain why other than that he seems small in my mind, but Romney reminds me of the King in the first Shrek movie.

I am glad Romney beat out the Paulbots.
Still, this is a meaningless poll.

Romney couldn't even beat McCain. If the Repubs are determined to lose another election, Romney is the best way to do it.

Wonder how many paid paulites voted? He has his "people" infiltrating everywhere.
And he's neither a Republican, nor a conservative.
Go figger. ;)

It’s “Good News” for those who bought the most votes. Romney bought 800 at $119 apiece (the cost of a conference ticket) and it may have included a copy of his book (what a deal!).
Meaningless for the rest of us.

The result was a given.
Blocks of tickets, Spam voting.
Isn’t this the usual routine.
Paul pushes his tickets to college kiddies,
the typical theory, Peter Pan beliefs who are
part of the Neo Left Ron Paul farce

I’m glad Sarah is above paying to stack the vote in her favor.

Define 'major'. The CPAC poll has always been a major one and this one is considered major because it's the first of the year outside of the beltway. Also, the south is one the most GOP friendly section of the country anymore - if not THE friendliest with the midwest/west going leftward for years now.
People need to wake up to the fact that Ron Paul is a force for liberty that, for the first time since Reagan in GOP politics, has a young, collegiate following as well as an old one. The good news for big government GOP'ers is that he probably won't run so that his son can in a few years.

The Paulites bought 800 tickets and only managed 438 votes. Hmmm... I thought it was Romney that bought 800. No matter, both "winners" are losers in my book.

Ron Paul is a moron, he said at this event that Obama isn’t a socialist.
As I mentioned RP is a moron.
