“Polish President Lech Kaczynski ‘in plane crash’”
SNIPPET: “They were in Russia to mark the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre, when Soviets killed thousands of Poles.
The Russian emergencies ministry told Itar-Tass news agency the plane crashed at 1056 Moscow time (0656 GMT).”
SNIPPET: “Smolensk regional governor Sergei Antufiev told Russian TV that no-one had survived.
“As it was preparing for landing, the Polish president’s aircraft did not make it to the landing strip,” he said.
“According to preliminary reports, it got caught up in the tops of trees, fell to the ground and broke up into pieces. There are no survivors in that crash.”
OMG.
*prayers*
Somewhere tonight...Putin is grinning.

I don't quite understand why Poles would go to Russia to observe the anniversary of Russian troops murdering Polish officers held prisoner.
This re-inforces the wisdom of not having all your top leaders on one aircraft.
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground.
Condolences to our Polish friends.

At least they’re not trying to blame the center-line fuel tank.

This almost happened on a flight that I was taking in Northern Italy. VERY dense fog. WE were on approach to the runway when, just as you could make out the tops of structures 10-20ft below the plane, it suddenly pulled up, climbed, and accelerated. We flew around for a few minutes before the pilot came on and said something about failure of the landing guidance system. We had to fly south to Genoa, refuel, and then head back north when the fog cleared. Pretty scary.
I don’t like the feeling I’m getting from this... Granted, I just heard (for once it was my daughters who broke this news to me, and I didn’t see it here first...), and haven’t been able to read a lot about it so far...
Lizol, I know people are in mourning right now, but what is the mood there — are the Polish people accepting this as an accident, or are they questioning due to where and how this happened?
