Polish president dies in air crash

A plane carrying Lech Kaczynski, the Polish president, has crashed near Smolensk airport in western Russia, killing all on board, Russian officials have reported.

Polish officials confirmed on Saturday that Kaczynski was on board the flight with his wife, as well as Slawomir Skrzypek, the president of Poland's central bank, Andrzej Kremer, the deputy foreign minister and the army chief of staff.

The crash occurred about 1.5km from Smolensk airport in foggy conditions.

So this doesn’t make sense. Poland offered to give Ukraine 30 something MIG fighter jets to help in their fight against the Ruskies...why was he in Russian airspace?
You would think that would be the last place the Polish president would be. Right?

It wasn't just the Polish president, but also many in his cabinet and others. None of them thought that Russia would shoot down the presidential jet, as that should have caused a war. For those who still want to believe the Russian report blaming the Polish pilots, remember that the presidential jet, which was part of the Polish Air Force has never been returned to Poland. If one were to conclude that the Russian explanation should be rejected and the President of Poland was assassinated by a missile strike, then war with NATO should be the result.

And all of these years later, the Polish presidential jet, a military aircraft from a NATO country, still has not been returned to Poland after the Russians shot it down, which is, of course, an act of war.
