Polish president dies in air crash
A plane carrying Lech Kaczynski, the Polish president, has crashed near Smolensk airport in western Russia, killing all on board, Russian officials have reported.
Polish officials confirmed on Saturday that Kaczynski was on board the flight with his wife, as well as Slawomir Skrzypek, the president of Poland's central bank, Andrzej Kremer, the deputy foreign minister and the army chief of staff.
The crash occurred about 1.5km from Smolensk airport in foggy conditions.
That is so awful. Prayers to the people of Poland.

Regardless if it was a true accident, or foul play was involved, Putin sees this as a gift handed over to Russia on a sliver platter.

I wonder if the information being received by the pilots was incorrect in some way, either from what they received from the ground or from what the instruments were telling them. Do they release the tapes from the tower? If cell phones were inoperative, were the avionics being jammed with bad info?

Forgive my cynicism, but I’ve never seen Russia aka the new Soviet Union so aggresive since the Carter years. Pusillanimous appeasement from the U.S. has it’s costs. Let’s hope this ‘accident’ wasn’t one of them.
I am in tears.. during the last 8 years, the Polish people have been some of our most steadfast allies. They do not deserve this. If I could go do DC, I would put flowers in front of the statue of Tadeusz Kosciuszko.
