In an effort to build its credibility and influence nationwide, the tea party movement on Thursday announced the formation of a "federation" of tea party groups.

Mark Shroder, a member of the Memphis Tea Party, told a crowd of roughly 200 conservative activists gathered outside the state capitol that 21 factions of the movement will form the National Federation Tea Party. Shroder said the federation will act as a "rapid response" to "misinformation" allegedly put forth by the "mainstream media."

The fact that Skoda only has 21 organizations involved ...

"Only" 21... ;-)

I think this indicative that the TEA party movement has a lot of different ideas within the ranks.

Precisely -- and as a result, there's little ability to focus.

What really needs to happen, is for some group to identify a few common Big Ideas, about which all of those smaller organizations can agree and rally.

The areas of agreement are actually pretty obvious: the insane deficit situation being the biggest. The basic features, hidden and otherwise, of Obamacare. The inanity and utter irresponsibility of Congress and the triumph of partisan politics over statesmanship. Maybe a couple of others, but no more.

Leave off the hot-button issues for now, how to deal with illegal immigration being the one I'd specifically avoid, as it's far too contentious an issue even among conservatives to serve as a rallying point.

And note that those complaints apply across the board -- more to Democrats, of course, but also to Republicans. There's no reason to hitch that information campaign to any one party.

Well as to what they are opposed to I thought that was pretty clear when they opposed the health-care bill...as well, the very extreme leftist agenda ob is pushing.

Which was successfully painted by the MSM as "being opposed to Obama." There was no focus on the actual issues being raised.

The republicans seem to be filling us in on the details of that which concerns us...

Which says that we should pay more attention to the R's and less to the Tea Parties? Doesn't that sorta make the Tea Party redundant? As for Fox, and even more for talk radio -- they mostly preach to the choir, who are not the folks we need to reach.

If you noticed the Tea Party is already doing ads and opposing candidates who are not conservatives, or who are liberal minded.

You're speaking of Republican primaries, of course. But note: you're opposing, not supporting. Leaving a vacuum, in other words, which will be filled by somebody else if the Tea Party doesn't do it.

The solutions are pretty evident as well...abide by our constitution...and enforce it when necessary.

That's not a solution, it's a goal. A solution involves creating the political and cultural atmosphere in which that goal can be approached; and a set of policies and legislation by which enforcement can be accomplished.

That's a much harder task than saying "abide by our constitution." Folks have been saying that for a long time -- you'd think we'd have learned by now that simply saying it has not had much influence on the anti-constitutional trends.

[America's economy was a bright example of the free market before the 20th century]

In other words, the hypothetical "free market" that folks keep parroting on about hasn't existed for at least 110 years?

What about the Opiate monkey bidness of Russel Trust Association - was that part of a "Free" market?  Or just bidness as usual for an Oligarchic elite feeding from the Tyranny of the Appetite - presently manifested via this:

Free Market - unregulated supply and demand - that's the thing to be worshipped, RIGHT?

WRONG. The American founders had other ideas:

I’d prefer no parties at all. But you have to find a way to beat the system and how it works now. That is what I am concerned about. We don’t need the ahole we have in office to be there again starting in 2013. He’ll have done plenty of damage to those ideas etched in stone by then....

I agree. It sounds like a power grab, probably instigated by the infiltration we learned about a few days ago...

[He’ll have done plenty of damage to those ideas etched in stone by then....]

The Jefferson Memorial is 1 mile South of the Oval Office.  The pillars of the memorial, and Jefferson's Statue, are arranged so that Jefferson only becomes frontally visible when viewed from the North - from the White House.

Evidently, the design is that the occupant of the Oval Office is supposed to look out and see Jefferson standing there - GLARING AT HIM - from across the tidal basin.
"Is this piece of legislation on my desk consistent with what's written in stone over there?" they should be thinking...
The job of the Tea Party should be to remind them of that  - RELENTLESSLY focusing their attention back 200+ years across the tidal basin.

Government Of the People, By the People, For the People was never intended to be a spectator sport.  It's HANDS ON - and the responsibility of  We the People..

If the eyes of the Oval Office are focused in the wrong place - it's OUR responsibility to correct their vision; and that began with Jefferson's general plan to enable the individual public to see the self-evident truth with their own eyes and mind, which Almighty God Hath Created Free...

Someone trying to make money out of the movement. A “Federated” group will require a leader and staff. Leader and staff = give me money.

Rinos or major financial backers uncomfortable with the populism.

Government, not business, is the bad guy my friend. Business free from government interference has and always will be is the goose that lays the golden egg. Government, on the other hand only creates poverty. Government is malicious, whereas business is amoral. Business goes where the profits are, as well they should. Government screwed it up the way they always do when they meddle in economic affairs, where, in this case, they subsidized and made it attractive for business to accept sub-prime accounts. Big business in their stupidity is trying to make friends with the headless beast of government not realizing that the headless beast of government will devour them as soon as it is able.

Haven’t seen the last of this idiocy either. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not dead and apparently Obama plans to pour more taxpayer money into these subsidized monstrosities. If the Socialists can convince you that the free market is the bad guy, they’ve won a huge propaganda victory. But they’re liars, of course.

From what I see and hear most of Palin’s campaingning time is being given to conservative candidates—whether Independent, Conservative Party or Republican Party candidates. Her campaign time with McBipartisan has been minimal. I think she’s doing it mainly to marginalize him as a critic.

“This is NOT good. Once you form the ‘federation’ you start appointing ‘leaders’. Not good at all. I hope no other Tea Party groups join this. They’ve got to remain independent.”

Absolutely correct.

I am the founder of the Staten Island Tea Party (www.teapartyinfo.com) and I can tell you UNEQUIVOCALLY that I will resist this.

TOO MANY EGOS, TOO MANY MEDIA WHORES AND TOO MANY “I KNOW WHAT’S BEST” WANNA-BE LEADERS.

No sir. No way.

“Or is this an attempt by the moderates to co-opt the movement for their own benefit?

McCain with Palin’s help has been trying to do that in Arizona — identify himself with the Tea Party movement. “

And he rolled over about 20% of them.

Mark Skoda or anybody can act on their own to defend Tea Party activity without forming some random federation.

Maybe my bias against this idea is showing, but this sounds like something Obama would say, only with different enemies...

Exactly what I was thinking.

Tell a lie, and centralize power.

[they subsidized and made it attractive for business to accept sub-prime accounts]

Ameriquest/Argent Mortgage operated their pipeline via a warehouse creditline supplied primarily by Deutchesbank.

As of June 2007, NONE OF THEIR LOANS QUALIFIED FOR UNDERWRITING BY FREDDY/FANNY.

The Federal Gooberment had NOTHING to do with “subsidizing” that operation - which existed for primarily ONE purpose: the securitization of A$$PAPER in an UNREGULATED market.

In fact, if you’d bother to look at the campaign contributions made by the Arnalls to BOTH the Rat and RINO parties, it’s self-evident they were responsible for manipulating government into deregulating for their profit.

Ameriquest is the post-child for the “Free” market allowed to run wild.

No Sale.

[Government, not business, is the bad guy]

Maybe in the Ivory Tower where they are theoretically separated; but in the real world, where they have merged into the manifestation of Mussolini's Fascist Corporatism - they are BOTH responsible for the systemically, criminally, corrupted state of financial affairs.

In the Bible, the collective merger between State / Commerce / and Religion was called Ba'al.  Ba'al being a Hebrew word meaning Owner, Lord, Master, Possessor....

...about which the author of the American Declaration of Independence had to say:

"COMMERCE BETWEEN MASTER AND SLAVE IS DESPOTISM"
and
"TO SECURE THESE RIGHTS, governments are instituted among men"
--Thomas Jefferson

What a wonderful coup for our would-be owners if enough Useful Idiots can be conned into despising and destroying the governmental instruments which secure the inalienable rights and freedoms of American citizens...
