“Fly bys of near-Earth objects within the moon’s orbit occur every few weeks,” said Don Yeomans of NASA’s Near-Earth Object Office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., in a statement.
Never mind.

NOVA had a TV program on this week that detailed the history of telescopes. Fascinating. It is amazing how powerful telescopes have become in the recent past.

"Fly bys of near-Earth objects within the moons orbit occur every few weeks, said Don Yeomans of NASAs Near-Earth Object Office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., in a statement." If this is as common as he claims, then when was the last time we had a significant impact of an asteroid on the moon?
It would seem as if 71 foot asteroids traveling between the earth and moon would occasionally hit one or the other.

Thanks TaraP.
A newly discovered asteroid... even though it is passing within the orbit of the moon... poses no threat of crashing into our planet... The asteroid, called 2010 GA6, is a relatively small space rock about 71 feet wide...
