First off, the headline is misleading. The fetus would have health problems, not the woman. And if the woman is on a continuous birth control pill, she wouldn’t get pregnant on the sub and wouldn’t have a period. And if she’s a competent person doing her job, she wouldn’t be screwing around with her sub mates anyway. I think people need to find a different reason to keep women off subs. This pregnancy/period/PMS crap isn’t one (or three) of them.
Both. But I suspect “drop-offs” to be the ultimate solution to the problem that Gates has created.
Make no mistake about this. This, like so many other equality issues, is driven by the need to get as many female officers in the higher ranks as possible. They couldn't give a darn about the rates.
Are they going to require the female crew member not to have relations 30-days before deployment? I’d like to see how that works. What are they going to do after they have the inevitable pregnancy ‘evacuations’, court-martial her?
Any woman with half a brain knows how to NOT get pregnant. I would assume that the handful that did get on subs would ensure they did not get pregnant prior to getting on a sub - there aren’t many dummies on a sub. Whether it’s through abstinence or a reliable birth control method, including abstaining during her fertile days - a smart female can control her fertility. How do these women who go up in space ensure they aren’t pregnant prior to launch/during training?
Check back with me when a multi-million dollar sub deployment gets compromised because the birth control failed.
Actually, you would be incorrect on how long female astronauts circle the earth. Several women have worked extended missions on board the ISS (Space Station). We are talking 6mos. I know that astronaut Peggy Whitson has logged over 1yr in total space flight time throughout her career.
it will achieve their goal of making the military less ready, less able to project force in the world
Or are we going to shuffle the crew assignments so that we have only female officers berthed with other females? (that's my bet).
That would be the best solution, and workable.
It would take years before a completely female crew could be qualified. Lower enlisted wouldn't be much of a problem unless navy sailors are far different from army sailors. I had women on my boats for the last ten years of my army career and never had a problem. Of course, much will depend on the skipper and COB, but I have faith that navy sailors can adapt.
I will. And if I don’t, remind me.
She sued after she fatally crashed nine times? Wow! The Navy Medical Corps must be outstanding.
Yes she did sue.
The crashes were on the simulator of course ... laughable, if it weren’t so ridiculous
