Maybe protecting the big screen tv with your body isn’t THE best plan, but I read years ago that in a quake, you should position yourself next to a large surfaced, heavy piece of furniture, like a desk or bed. There is (according to the article) something in the physics of how things collapse in an earthquake that the falling objects seek a large object to fall onto, and the areas around it remain clear.

I sent the article to my daughter when she moved to Japan. Now she has the info available in SF.
