Drill here- drill now has been my mantra for a long time, to help break our dependence on the world for energy. Simultaneously, we need nuclear power. For 50 years the US Navy has safely sailed around the world on nuclear power and it's time for us to bring that technology ashore.
Bill Gates, along with Toshiba, are in the process of developing a small nuclear reactor that can run continuously for 100 years without any refueling. Currently, Toshiba's US based partner; Westinghouse, has already built a model that can run up to 30 years continuously. The left propagates their unwavering desire for clean energy yet the refuse to sit down and really talk about fixing our energy problem.
Imagine a small nuclear reactor that any city or rural town could buy to significantly drop the cost of energy and help maintain a clean environment. It will be here soon. While small villages in Alaska are running on diesel generators that can cost close to $12 a gallon to fuel they could soon take advantage of technology we ALREADY have. So much of Obama's Presidential Campaign regarding clean energy was that technology is "right around the corner" that would enable us to be independent and clean. Well, we actually have it now. While Gates and Toshiba have yet to reach the 100 year mark on their small reactors, even using a generator that has a 30 year capacity without refueling is far better than anything wind energy will ever have to offer us - and we can put them anywhere.
It's time to just ignore the left. It's time to ignore their misconceptions and irrational arguments against nuclear power and start to make choices that will actually benefit all Americans, rich and poor. Boost job growth with lower energy costs. Create permanent, high-tech jobs to build and manage these plants. While it frustrates the left, the simple, common-sense answer truly can have an positive impact.
The liberals worship Mother Earth. they want us to be clean and green.
It’s ironic how they oppose nuclear, when nuclear power is among the cleanest and greenest of energy sources.
It’s ironic that those who worship Mother Earth tend to have a disdain for any organized religion. Yet they are religious in their zeal about saving the planet.
As a byproduct, think about all the high-paying jobs that would be created in order to design, manufacture, install and maintain high-technology nuclear reactors.
Plus financing, insurance, construction, certifications, regulations, permits, etc.
I am in favor of more nuclear power.
But unless it is combined with more uranium mining, processing and reprocessing in the US, it still keeps us dependent on other nations for power. Most of our civilian uranium is from foreign sources.
The big guys will never allow clean, efficient and affordable fuel to be avalable. They haven’t so far, have they? And there have been plenty of possibilities. Did someone say something about Cold Fusion?
Right on! 80% of our current nuclear fuel comes from outside the US. Bump up the number of reactors and that number goes higher, and our technology for concemtrating uranium 235 to make fuel is antiquated. Iran has better refining tools than we do.
Also getting permits for these things is still a serious problem which is compounded if you downsize them and therefore have more to permit. It would only take a small group of green protestors to halt this advance in its tracks.
Need a national program of R&D to develop both the generating tools and the fuel enrichment processes. I confess that I don’t see this government doing anything but thwarting the process as they”ve already done.
Not that again. Please.
We have an abundance of spent fuel to use in this reactor if it can be made operational given all the roadblocks that will be set in place by the anti-American, anti-nuke crowd.
Thanks for the info.
>The greens worship Mother Earth.....<
I don’t believe they worship anything but power. Most of these green groups are subversive implemented by the Progressives in government, crippling private industry by imposng impossible regulations on it. So to keep solvent, industry left the U,.S.A. for “greener” pastures.
Common sense says you don’t dump toxins into rivers and lakes,so obviously that should be stopped. Other than that, the greens have done their part in bringing down the country. We used to be the world’s largest manufacturer, jobs were plentiful, prosperity soard. Look at us today.
Just a few more years and we’ll be able to start dotting the countryside with them. These new compact self-contained units would be friendlier to live next to than a sewer plant.
Those things are not emission-free. Try marching behind one in a parade.
Speaking as someone who had to depend on that form of energy as a boy I can tell you it is NOT totally emission free or clean.
All of these movements are about one thing and one thing only: The total control of the American people by an out of control government.
It HAS happened here!
I guess I forgot the <!/sarcasm> tag
No, I did.
