That little tidbit of information would come as a surprise to the combatants of wars since time immemorial. Indeed the killing of the enemy until he loses the will or the ability to continue to fight is the essence of warfare.
Petraeus should stop pandering to the leftists and the weak sisters, unless he truly believes this foolishness, in which case he should resign immediately.

I can see it now . . . Obama's Love Army. We no longer shoot or maim. We will kill you with kindness! More tea, Achmed? Need a new diaper wrap, Osama? Comb out that beard for you, Ali? How about a camel wash, Mohamed? Instead of fatigues, Obama's Love Army will wear 60's hippie attire -- tie-dyed t-shirts, headbands, long sideburns and lots of chest hair. Yes, baby, we are Obama's Love Army! Hope and change, baby!

>Since Obama took office the cost at the pump has risen [mol] $1 per gal. The drug trade is booming as well.
Citizens have already started ‘self-medicating,’ obviously. Now back to my sake...

Yes, he was in a war we actually won.
Afghanistan looks like Vietnam all over again. I hear echoes of the sixties - the government is corrupt, it’s not doing enough, you can’t defeat the insurgents, blah, blah, blah. As someone who lived through this before, let me tell you that you will deeply regret listening to these defeatists - and so will the people of Afghanistan.

Agreed. To boot, there are a mass of past historical generals and leaders who would argue otherwise. Hence the theory that when you go to war or engage in a conflict, you bring and use everything within your arsenal to bring said war or conflict to a swift end....being the longer a war or conflict persists, the more chance and likelihood of increased deaths casualties. I suppose Petraeus believes that fighting with one hand tied behind your back is the best way; therefore is why he asserts that one can’t kill your way out of war?

General with all due respect I could kill my way out of this war and not even risk one American life. All’s that is needed is the will to do it. Oh and BTW the heroin problem would be resolved for about 10,000 years.

The only way out of war once you are in it is to “kill your way out”. So what happened to Petraus? This was a heck of a stupid statement.

Absence of enemy = peace.

The point of War itself is to kill people and break things. This is an extremely disturbing statement by this general. When did he have a change of heart or brain (lobotomy maybe?)

After Sept 11, no immigrations from the ME should have been allowed, and CAIR kicked out of the country. No new mosque construction. GWB produced the Patriot Act which could have included the surveillance of existing mosques, no backing down, ferreting out the hate groups in major city ghettos, and destroying islamic compounds/training camps(!) such as Islamaberg NY and the infestation near Houston. Mesta Machine has a map on her thread "Threat Matrix".
A situation like today never existed or would have been allowed to exist during any previous wars. (except for the Vietnam war when the commie provacateurs provoked the college brats to dissension and violence; not quite the same thing)
