AP material must be excerpted at all times.
Filing with the Supremes was probably pricier.
Anyone conducting a relief or legal support fund for the fellow? (I’d gladly like to see the $5 million award, or at least some award, reinstated, and not expect a nickel personally.)
Jay really gives a great face to the ACLJ. Pat Robertson probably inspired a lot of facepalms.
LOL...yes, you are probably correct on that one. I’ve did the face palm thing regarding him before. Now I simply ‘cringe’ when I hear his name. He (PR) was great in the early 90’s (before the 94 election). He really rallied conservatives and republicans through the Christian Coalition organization. But then he seemed to go off the deep end. *sigh*
That's right. The winner on appeal fills out a "Bill of Costs" which includes the printer's bill, the cost of filing the appeal ($350 for when this case was filed), and a few other small items. The is the practice in all federal appeals. It has nothing to do with the merits of a case or otherwise. Here's the link to the form the 4th Circuit uses. You can see these are small amounts.

I do feel bad for the Baptist's though. Some people may get the wrong idea in regards to Phelps trying to affiliate himself with them.
Westboro Baptist Church is no different from People’s Temple, Manson Family, Heaven’s Gate, and Al-Qaida.
One person’s freedom ends when it tramples on another person’s freedom.
Fred Phelps=Osama bin Laden, Jim Jones, Charles Manson, and Marshall Applewhite.
He is no different from them. He spews out the same garbage as Bin Laden and Jihadists.
“On Friday, Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ordered Snyder to pay $16,510 to Fred Phelps. Phelps is the leader of Topeka’s Westboro Baptist Church, which conducted protests at Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder’s funeral in 2006.”

I have to tell you, if Phelps protested my son’s funeral, it would be his last protest. I know that I would not be mentally stable enough to endure such an heinous act being consumed with grief.
Someone posted below that it is unwise to sue a professional troublemaker. What is one to do about this monster? Anyone that would protest a funeral of a Soldier is beyond mental. Why isn’t this guy locked up?
Someone this annoying would, I’d expect, get a lot of counter protests around HIS facility.
Yup....$16 thousand is what I read
