Could someone post the Wikipedia biography of the trash that calls himself “Phelps” (sue me, Phelps, truth is an absolute defense to libel). He has a very interesting background and is a lowlife of the first order.

If anything they would be expected to welcome the war, as a morass in which to punish the USA.

They are slinging fighting words around.

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed earlier this month to consider whether the protesters' provocative messages, which include phrases like "Thank God for dead soldiers," are protected by the First Amendment.

Treason is not protected speech.

Mildred Gillars (Axis Sally) was convicted of treason for a radio drama she broadcast on behalf of Nazi Germany. It wasn't simply that she sided with the Nazis. It wasn't simply that she was in their employ. She worked to sour morale at home and among the troops and boost the spirits of the enemy.

Having made himself a public figure, US libel laws require a much higher standard of proof to establish libel or slander about him, than they would about you or I. If his ilk existed in Britain they would have a slander and libel suit heyday.

I just think states should ban ANY demonstrations and/or soliciting from all cemetaries and any sidewalk or street adjacent thereto. It could be justifed as a content neutral public saftey measure.

This is how Phelps funds his activities.

From what I’ve seen/heard, the Phelps Cult is just a law firm.
That funds their trips around the country with lawsuits.

Wonder why you’ve never seen a one-hour documentary on them on TV?

I suspect no mainstream documentary producers want to mention that
Al and Tipper Gore were buddies of Phelps “back in the day”.

These are not political words. They are religious words expressly shaped to tempt a violent confrontation.

Careful with that line of argument. It gives legal outs for radical Imam who support the insurgency.

Funny thing is that the SPLC is where I traced Phelps back to the Gore campaign.

The courts mistake the notion of “a right to peaceful assembly” when RNC conventions are disrupted and provocateurs interrupt military funerals.

The rights of the protesters do not trump the rights of the other parties to assemble.

Huh? It sounds more like what said imams are doing. The US is giving their violence inciting calls a pass because this is “religion.”

The Patriot Guard riders, who have been acting as human shields between the Phelpsites and the military funerals, don’t have any prohibition on outlaw bikers as far as I know. Some day some Phelpsite will probably cross the wrong character and it will be all she wrote for Westboro.

Jay Sekulow for one would be spoiling for a fight with the Phelps phony.

He is quite a pit bull isn't he? Very impressive attorney.

I don’t think I understand the difference. I’m sure the cross burner would say that they are protesting the end of Christian America, or some such blather. Of course, I still don’t understand why burning a flag is protected, but burning a cross isn’t. Well, I’ll just have to wait for SCOTUS to sort it out for me.

Jay is truly one of a kind. He has a deep grasp of the Old Testament because he came to Christ from a Jewish background. To Jay, Phelps must come across as not much better than an idol worshiper, and equally illogical. (The brave slain fighters returned from overseas were probably as adamant about homosexuality being wrong as one can get.)

But yeah anyhow, Jay won’t give up when an important cause of American freedom is at stake. Pitbull is right.

This is a standard scam, and it’s unfortunate that the dead marine’s father fell for it. Fred Phelps stages provocative protests for the sole purpose of goading local governments into infringing on his free speech rights. Then he sues and collects damages and attorney fees (which go into his pocket since he’s his own attorney).

I’m familiar with this because the same sort of thing happened in Simi Valley, CA back in 1992 following the Rodney King beating trial. Richard Barrett, the leader of his own little white supremacist Nationalist Movement, announced plans to hold a protest march. My wife was a member of the City Council at the time, and had to try to calm down the outrage of local citizens who wanted to prevent Barrett from coming. Of course he would have sued and pocketed tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars.

Instead he and his little band of six marchers were allowed to demonstrate in a fenced-off area around the county courthouse, with the fence protecting him from the hundreds of counter-demonstrators. He tried it again a few months later, this time with only one fellow demonstrator. After that he gave up, because he clearly was not going to be able to collect a lawsuit jackpot.

The same strategy should be employed against Phelps. Let him demonstrate and just ignore him. Yeah, it’s hurtful. But free speech and liberty isn’t always pleasant. People have to grow thick skins sometimes. If Phelps was consistently ignored, his lawsuit-derived income would evaporate, and he’d soon disappear when his outrages stopped being profitable.

Disgusting that any court would rule in favor of Fred Phelps and his Westboro Cult

The Devil has a special place in hell for this Satanist
