Ohio voters who want to switch political parties in the May 4 primary must be challenged and must sign a form saying they support the party's principles, according to a new directive from Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.
The only exception is if a voter asks for the ballot of the Libertarian, Green, Socialist or Constitution parties, because they were certified as minor parties for the first time this year, according to the directive issued late Friday.

Brunner said in an interview yesterday that Ohio law requires an automatic challenge anytime voters cross over to the other major party in a primary, even though not all counties have followed that interpretation.
Republicans and some county elections officials are crying foul, saying they think the law gives poll workers the discretion to decide whether to challenge a voter and that Brunner's directive could even discourage voting.
"I think it is unfortunate that the secretary of state is requiring a new hurdle for voters to clear to exercise their right to vote .....
...Some critics also note that the directive comes just before absentee voting starts Tuesday, and they suspect politics is at play because Brunner is a Democratic U.S. Senate candidate or is trying to discourage party switching.
"I'm just doing my job," Brunner said.

Republicans also aren't happy because Brunner issued a separate directive on Friday challenging an absentee-ballot application that the party recently mailed. It has an option to request a ballot for both the primary and general election, but Brunner said Ohio law allows voters to ask for only one ballot at a time.
"This is either a.... stunt to stir up publicity for her own Senate primary, or it's another ... attempt to suppress and confuse Republican voters," .... "Knowing Jennifer Brunner, it's probably both."

That’s ridiculous. Voters must do nothing but be law abiding citizens to vote. Nothing more. I am so glad I registered Independent several years ago, unless of course Jennifer decides not to let Independents vote!

Exactly. I believe she is running for re-election this year, and should specifically targeted for defeat by the GOP.
Notice how Brunner, who conveniently forgot about enforcing election laws in '08 to allow a ton of "new" phony 'Rat voters without verifiable addresses onto the rolls (and snubbed a federal court order in the process), is now allegedly enforcing the law overzealously with regard to party crossovers. What a hypocrite! It's just what you would expect from a product of Soros' "Secretary of State Project."
Teams of retired military, retired law enforcement, and retired patriots willing to volunteer will be needed in November to ensure the voter fraud is caught on video tape and prosecuted.
