Social justice is best pursued through fidelity to the Constitution of the United States, which was written by brilliant men who designed it as a restraint on government and a guarantee of individual liberty and responsibility.
The Catholic Church doesn't have a monopoly on virtue, and before it again pursues 'social justice' and 'change' at the expense of our institutions and traditions, it would be wise for it to remember that the road to perdition is paved with good intentions.

And putting up the thread does not equate to a blanket bash on the RC church.
The point is that, for Catholics to see threads like this as an attack on the Church is not being "thin-skinned" or unreasonable. It's what they are.
John Boehner is a Roman Catholic.
The Church's pursuit of social justice via the avenue of government compulsion, however, led directly to the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States, a pro-abortion Democrat Congress, and the enactment of a law which commands the government to prey upon the least of us.
Why should one derogatory comment make the thread a bash on your church any more than one pedophile priest makes your church a brood of vipers?
I'm just grateful for not being called a child-molester myself here, at least not lately.
So you confess your hypocrisy?
You can’t complain that a comment makes the thread a bash, without also accepting the notion that a pedophile priest makes your church a brood of vipers — it’s the very same principle, that the element defines the whole.
For real? From your lips to God's ear!
Can you give me a link on that?
Judaism does not allow for one to quit being Jewish.
Arthur McGowan told me that... it would certainly make sense given what mischief it represents. I think the idea is to get rid of all national conferences not just this one.
So, is Bxvi thinking about reining in the National Conferences? can you give me a link?
Heresy and idolatry. Social justice is best pursued through fidelity to God the Almighty Father.
This is not a good analogy.
One priest absolutely does make all priests pedophiles, nor does it make the Catholic Church (and its priests) a brood of vipers.
Such a broad brush of Catholics as a whole and all priests as pedophiles in particular is a much greater injustice than a single thread on a busy forum.
I am reasonbly sure that you have read other posts on other threads here that have given the statistical number that over 94% of Catholic priests have not committed the crime of pedophilia. In any other kind of poll, 94% is a very high number.
When all priests are targets, what is happening is that they are being tagged, as if they were being required to wear a yellow band on their sleeve. This is an injustice to good priests and should not be something that goes uncontested.
Regarding post #2—when a poster refers to the Catholic Church as the Whore of Babylon, it is certainly nothing new. It harkens back to the Know Nothings. And it’s still a reprehensible pejorative.
“Social Justice” was not even mentioned in the Catholic Church 20 or even 10 years ago.
This is a fairly new (and uninformed) take on the mercy and justice) of God.
God is fully merciful. Gos is fully just.
Period. That’s it, folks!
I thought that I was hearing that during the peak of the "liberation theology" movement during the 1970s and the Reagan Presidency.
Salvation, I'm sorry, but that's just not true. I'm 58; and when I was a teenager (40+ years ago) social justice wrongly defined (roughly, defined as the Democratic Party platform) was becoming the predominat theme among "progressive" Catholics.
Nor did it start then; the bad seed has sprouted decades before that. Once can cite all sorts of benchmarks, but let me recommend this artcle (link) Je Me Souviens which tells the story of how the Left destroyed, destroyed the Catholic Church in Quebec, from within, with left-wing movements going back to the 1930's and picking up speed in the immediate aftermath of WWII.
It's very much like what's happening in the USA, only offset by a couple of decades.
Please read the linked item. I think you'll find it eye-opening, and, though "Quebeckish," applicable to what's happening right here, right now.
I see what you're saying, but I would respectfully disagree that, at least as the term is commonly used, "capitalism" is at all the same as "free market."
Capitalism, again in the common usage of the term, includes things like multinational corporations, credit default swaps, and the revolving door between the Big Four accounting firms, tax funded bailouts, and the Department of the Treasury, the SEC and the Commodities Futures Commission and so on.
All of those things are open to abuse and some of them are the very antithesis of the "free market."
I believe passionately in the free market. I got my problems with "capitalism", again as the term is commonly used.
To the critical reader the phrase "absolute primacy of the law of the market place" reminds us that there is a higher law. Nothing written by Adam Smith negates the call to Beatitude.
