Former ABC "This Week" co-host, now panelist on the program, Cokie Roberts does not pull any punches in the syndicated column she pens with her husband Steve.
She writes about a recent panel discussion that Steve was participating in during which "a beefy guy" stood up and claimed health reform was akin to fascism. Roberts writes, "We don't know what the beefy guy reads or to whom he listens, but we would bet he's a disciple of Glenn Beck."
She then goes off on Beck's "incendiary language" and his corruption of "the very essence of democracy."
We defended Fox News when the White House attacked the network in 2009, partly because it employs many fine journalists, including several of Steve's former students. But news folks at Fox are right to be worried. At some point, Beck's fanaticism taints them all. "They're right on the cusp of losing their image as a news organization," says Andrew Tyndall, a respected television analyst.
We are not denying Beck or anyone else their First Amendment rights. He can say anything he wants. But advertisers don't have to support his brand of hate mongering, and audiences don't have to take Fox News seriously if one of its top names has become a "circus clown."
Actually, Beck is worse than a clown. He's more like a terrorist who believes he has discovered the One True Faith, and condemns everyone else as a heretic. And that makes him something else as well -- a traitor to the American values he professes so loudly to defend.
This is chilling because it gives a clear rational for arresting Beck and his supporters. I expect to hear a lot more of this in coming weeks.
If a lunatic does "go McVeigh", the Democrats fondest wish will come true.
I fully expect something to happen before fall. Memories of the Reichstag fire are not strong in the voting public. Socialism is no longer a bad word. Fifty three percent of the voters wanted Obama.
Now I know why they call her “Cokie” ...
My question for mindless little Cokie Roberts: "if you don't call it fascism when the national government takes over the big banks, the big manufacturers including two of three car companies, and all of health care, what do you call that?" Personally, I'm okay with calling it socialism. If she wants to debate where this falls on the spectrum between national socialism and soviet socialism, I can discuss that, but it has nothing to do with capitalism, freedom, democracy, or anything else that is supposed to be protected by our Constitution.
I remember the good ol’ days when Cokie, Sam Donaldson and George Will did their weekly news analysis, and Cokie was a lightweight then. That must have been back in the 70s, before senility set in . While she makes utterly stupid statements about Beck, Olberman and Matthews are her comrades. Time to retire.
They look like two professors of sociology who escaped from the nearest loony college.
Is she parroting someone else’s opinion, or has she ever actually ever watched his show?
Projection: “Actually, [Cokie] is worse than a clown. [Sh]e’s more like a terrorist who believes [s]he has discovered the One True Faith, and condemns everyone else as a heretic. And that makes [her] something else as well — a traitor to the American values [s]he professes so loudly to defend.” There! How does that fit?
Who is this old hag and why should I listen to her?
She is the daughter of some dead southern Senator who became Georgetownized. Cokie was socially promoted into the journalism world due to her daddies contacts. She is quite the intellectual and so out spoken. And guess what, her daddy was a democrat. I believe he voted against the 64 Civil Rights Act, so she like Gore have serious pedigree when determining Clown status of persons beneath their status and intellect.
Well by all means Cokie, please be my guest and call the FBI to report your evidence that Glenn Beck is a terrorist... Or maybe what you’re saying isn’t true, and you’re just a blowhard communist making baseless accusations.
More clever banter from Cokie and the cocktail party crowd.
I use to like Cokie...years ago...man that Obama Koolade is some really powerful stuff....
” This is chilling because it gives a clear rational for arresting Beck and his supporters. I expect to hear a lot more of this in coming weeks.”
certainly was my first thought, especially on the heels of the avalanche of press & TV reports about “tea-bagger” racial epithets at the Washington rally (for which there is STILL no evidence-—in fact, there is video evidence to the contrary).
This ploy had a dry run during the townhall meetings.
Is it not a strong possibility that these false and dangerous accusations are being orchestrated out of the WH & DNC?
You are correct that she originated with a criminal organization. Her father was a long time Congressman -- when he died, her mother took over the seat. Her brother is a multi millionaire Washington lawyer/lobbyist. Her husband is a big shot DC journalist who never wrote a story that didn't praise big government.
Roberts literally is a life long DC beltway creature. She represents the 'organization' and anything or anyone (like Glen Beck) who tries to resist that organization is her enemy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iGGjGSdqf8 He was demonized and left to hang by his Republican “brethren”, and mocked to this day, same is being attempted with Glen Beck.
What is different today is the alternate media, and talk radio.
Much more difficult to demonize those they do not agree with
i love it when left MSM journalist....can’t understand why their magazines, newspapers, TV shows are folding and People like Glenn Beck have millions of viewers everyday.....I look forward to 5pm...on my treadmill
MY DAILY DOSE OF AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHH....GO GET EM

sounds like actionable defamation.
