Opinion: We Stood with Stupak: He Didn't Stand for Life.
Catholic Online ^ | 3/23/10 | Jennifer Hartline

Posted on 03/22/2010 4:14:32 PM PDT by tcg

I have had some time to recover from what occurred on Sunday evening, but I still feel sick to my stomach. I always knew there was a chance that Bart Stupak would change his vote for some reason other than securing his amendment, but I honestly thought he would hold his ground and not waver in his defense of unborn children. Senator Nelson's betrayal last year was very upsetting, but this... this is just so painful.

The trouble is, we citizens have no choice but to believe in our politicians. We must risk trusting them to be true to their word, to their principles, to the promises they've made. You and I cannot walk down to the front of that Chamber and cast a vote, so we must rally behind our Reps and Senators and ask everyone who shares our values to do the same. "Stand with Stupak!" we cried. "Let him know we're with him and we appreciate all he's doing!" He's the only thing left standing between life and federally-funded death right now! And so, it seemed, he was.

Does this make us fools now? Well, it sure makes me feel a little foolish, but I realize this morning that I did what I had to do, and what I will do again when there's a candidate who says he will stand up for the unborn. We have no choice but to take the chance, knowing there's always the possibility that we will be betrayed. Again, you and I cannot cast a legislative vote. Our votes come later.

What happened Sunday night sure felt like betrayal. Not with a kiss, but with a slap across the face and a knife to the heart. I never expected Stupak to do what he did, especially not at the very.last.minute.

I agree. My congressman voted against Healthcare, but he is a ‘rat. I don’t care that he voted against it. He caucuses with Pelosi and will never get my vote. They are all liars.

I think Stupak is going to find out the hard way, that you can't trust what Obama says.

Take off the blinders.
They had Stupak in the bag.
Done deal from Day 1.

Stupak needs cover
He's in a pro-Life district.
That's why the Fan Dance...

But when Nancy called,
There could never be a doubt,
He would come running...

Tell her that if an Executive Order can trump legislation, then we are living in a dictatorship where the President can overrule anything at anytime.

We're closer than anyone wants to imagine, but we're not there yet.

Anyone thinking a Democrat any politician is trustworthy based on what they say is a fool.

Our Founders knew and understood this fundamental concept, and specifically codified it into our Constitution

There is no such thing as a “pro-life” democrat. Abotion is part of the holy trinity of the democrat party.

The Catholic Church in the US is full of liberals, like a virus polluting the host.

Disgrazie.

Executive orders don’t trump federal law, and Obama knows it and so does Stupak. And so do the pro-abortion Dems who would be very upset if they didn’t understand the game.

Secondly, just use your own common sense. It is impossible to imagine that O and Pelosi and their minions are going to build a universal health care system that doesn’t pay for abortions. It will only take one minor reg change or one minor judges opinion issued from the bench to turn it around. And everyone knows that. This is a kabuki dance that fools no one, including Stupak.

Not only will it pay for abortions, but when they are done you will not be allowed to opt out of performing or supporting them. How do we know that? Because that is already the direction the government and the courts are driving things. Its getting very difficult to be a pro-life nurse and refuse to assist an abortion, or a pro-life pharmacist and refuse to fill prescriptions for abortion drugs.

If a Dem is promoting himself as pro-life, you have to ask yourself and him how he squares that with membership in the DNC. Because, seriously, the mere fact that he is in the DNC tells you that the moral order is not his first priority.

Kind of like Himmler supporting the Jewish Defense League.

Mama always said: "Never argue with an idiot, it's hard for bystanders to tell who's the idiot".

Daddy always said: "Never argue with an idiot, they'll just drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience".

I think what it comes down to is the Catholic Church does more to protect its sources of income and influence more than it does to protect life (just look at the continued allegations of child abuse in the Catholic Church being hidden in Europe). If the Catholic Church was serious about protecting life, they would excommunicate all of the pols who are pro-death. And just so everyone doesn't get the wrong idea, I have nearly a universal distrust for many organized religions. I mean how can the Church of God in Christ and the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. (the two largest predominantly black denominations in the US) both endorse BO (and thus Obamacare) and simultaneously claim to be pro-life? It is mostly a sham if you ask me. The religous leaders of these organizations IMO are more concerned with advancing their power and influence than anything else. Want to see a real religious leader, look up some old tapes of the late Dr. D. James Kennedy. No that guy told it like it was and didn't mince words.

Matthew 7:15-19

Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?
So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Thanks for the response....i also found this
Family Research Council. Very good.

“The proposal to address the problem of abortion funding in the health care bill through use of an Executive Order is a tacit acknowledgment that the bill as it stands is pro-abortion legislation … [I]t also does not succeed in application. An Executive Order cannot prevent insurance companies that pay for abortions from participating in the exchanges. Further, Executive Orders can be undone or modified as quickly as they are created. This is a blatant attempt to subvert democracy and should be quickly quashed.”

Family Research Council warns against the promise of: “an Executive Order (EO) that would magically fix the fact that the Senate bill (H.R. 3590) would spend government funds to pay for elective abortions. Further, the Reconciliation bill will make matters worse by increasing funding for community health centers, which will bypass any abortion funding restrictions in appropriations bills because it is directly appropriated. Both taken together will fund abortion, regardless of any EO.”

the church made a deal with the devil and got bit on the ass, and now boo-hoo, we TRUSTED HIM. Bull****. They thought they could get the dems to steal from working people and redistribute what we managed to put aside for our retirements, and then sit around holding hands singing kumbaya and feeling good about themselves. Well, I hope they are happy. Lots of dead babies - there arent enough priests around to say last rites over all the aborted fetuses.
