Opinion: Health Care Bill: Bart Stupak 'Limits the Harm'
Catholic Online ^ | 3/21/10 | Deacon Keith Fournier

Posted on 03/21/2010 4:06:43 PM PDT by tcg

...what has been clear throughout this extraordinary historic debate was that Congressman Bart Stupak was a faithful Catholic and a faithful Pro-Life DEMOCRATIC Congressman who refused to compromise on the first priniciples.

He has always supported the Health Care Reform package. He is, after all, a Democrat. He simply refused to compromise on the fundamental human rights issue of our age, the Right to Life. For that, he should be honored and thanked by all Pro-Life people.Even if he is wrong.

I was not surprised when he made his announcement. He was surrounded by other Pro-Life Democrats who had made the same decision with him.

He spoke of the "greement we have been able to reach" with the President. That agreement entails the issuing of what he called an "extensive" Executive order by the President immediately upon the passage of this legislation. He honestly believes that with this Executive Order, the current Hyde Amendment language will be protected in the law. He is confident that this Executive Order will ensure that the fatal flaw with this legislation, clearly set forth by the US Bishops, which undermined the fundamental Human Right to Life, will be cured. As a Constitutional lawyer, I strongly doubt it. Though I live in Virginia, I am, to use the old adage I'm from Missouri, show me!

I do not agree with this legislation for many important procedural, constitutional and substantive reasons. However, the first and fundamental reason I opposed it was that it DID indeed open up Federal funds for the killing of innocent children. If it did not, why is the President of the United States signing an Executive Order to cure the Bill?

Catholics are the only ones who stood up for Life since Roe vs wade... Don’t blame catholicism for your revised beliefs.

Christ said Peter Upon this Rock I build my Church it will prevail until the end of time and the gates of hell! Obviousley you think GOD didn’t do a good enough Job and you quit on him! Sorry you did! Please don’t bash Christ church for your decision! Any Other Church is founded by a MAN because he thought they create a Church better than GOD himself!Imagine that one!

At this point, SHOVE IT!!! Who are you to judge my faith because I am not a catholic sell out socialist. Keep your feminine priests, your social justice ridicule, and your condescending judgment on my faith in Jesus Christ. Nancy Pelosi, Bart Stupid, Ted Kennedy. Some catholic role models for Christ.

In my life, I’ve only donated maybe $100 total, to SarahPac and to Scott Brown. My original suggestion regarding dem no votes may have come from too much desperation, but like I said, I doubt that will cost me much. But I’m all in to knock Stupak out now.

You are ridiculously self-righteous. There are conservative Christians protesting abortion constantly. Crisis pregnancy centers are usually affiliated with Christian pro-life groups.

To Do This in Lent and ACT Like Judas bart Stupak should be embarrassed and unemployed come November.

Judas did better than Stupak. He got 30 Roman Denarii, worth much more than this EO.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I, like many others, have had low moments in life when I felt it tough to submit to God but this moment is particularly difficult for me. I really feel like our country has passed through an important one way door. The toothpaste is out of the tube so to speak and it feels to me that God is absent today.

I said Churches... Please.... The KNown denomination of Protestant churches are PRO LIFE?? Even The Baptist in the 1970’s were Pro Abortion..

The Catholic Church worldwide never wavered as DOGMA as being Pro LIFE!! No Abortion and No Oral Contraception No Embryonic stem cells.. etc..You cannot say that elsewhere as denominations! the Popes have reinforced this since the beginning of the Fight with Margaret Sanger in the 1930’s

This is not arrogant but the TRUTH!..not a Lie as you wrongly mentioned

Do Christians help out at Crisis Pregnancy centers yes..of course they do.... that is a Personal Choice!

Churches which oppose abortion:

The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod (LCMS)

The Southern Baptist Convention

Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)

Orthodox Churches, Plymouth Brethren churches, and thousands of independent Bible-believing churches oppose abortion

You Slam the Catholic Church Founded by Christ Himself. I quote the Bible in Matthew who said his Church will Prevail until the end of time and the Gates of Hell.
( meaning the Devil won’t win and the Church will last forever) Obviously by your statements you know better than Christ himself! Good luck!

It occurs to me that Eusebius was excommunicated for less offensive behavior than the behaviors of the current Democratic Party.

You know what? You are ignorant. My wife who died 5 years ago from a terrible cancer was catholic. I have the utmost respect for true Catholics. She was one, and so was I. My son, who is a special forces real soldier, is a born again Christian. So am I. We both don’t respect the pro choice, pro homosexual priests in our old parish. If you don’t like my stance on my faith, so be it. You judge my life and my faith? Who are you!

Jesus established His church, NOT “the Catholic Church”.
