Health Bill Will Fail Without Stupak Democrats
IBD's Capital Hill ^ | 3/20/2010 | Ed Carson

Posted on 03/20/2010 6:50:49 PM PDT by Slyscribe

Two more key Democrats decided to vote against ObamaCare, Blue Dog leader Jim Matheson of Utah and Ohio’s Zack Space. Space voted yes for the House health bill in November.

It’s 216 votes to a majority. Right now, there are 207 no votes — 217 including the 10 pro-life Stupak Democrats likely to vote no at present, according to Firedoglake. There are just 205* yes votes with no leaners and 9 undecided.

The bottom line: Speaker Nancy Pelosi appears to have two roads to victory:

1. Satisfy the Stu-Pak regarding abortion funding language without offending pro-choice members.

It was a failure as soon as it was introduced to Congress. Any federal version of health care is unconstitutional since Article 1 Section 8 does not grant Congress the power to regulate health care. The people are not bound to comply with any unconstitutional act of Congress regardless of the outcome! This is a fundamental point people must understand and convey to their Congress critters!

So what happens when BO decides to sign an Executive Order that says no federal funding for abortions?

Actually, I’m shocked he hasn’t signed an EO establishing obamacare. I hate them all.

Dems on the fence (including some who now made up their minds:

Contact the ones who are still on the fence, particularly if you are their constituent.

Prayers!

You're right Stupak does want the bill and an EO promise by Obama could be Stoopac's fig leaf.

Word at the rally today was that Stupak was wavering. We stopped by his office but it was locked, though people were in there.

Do you think the protests could swing some people publicly saying yes today into voting NO tomorrow?

Can he do such a thing? That would be pushing it, even for Obama.

If you mean the protests in DC, I don't know if those alone could switch votes, but I do know that members are feeling that same anger from their districts as well.

Yes, I do think some could switch their votes, especially if they feel momentum toward a failure of the bill.

Here's to hoping!
