Carney To Vote Yes
By: David Dayen Saturday March 20, 2010 12:36 pm

A major development: Chris Carney (D-PA) will vote yes on the health care bill. Carney was sort of part of the Stupak bloc, but wasn’t on the list of Democrats who co-sponsored Bart Stupak’s ultimately failed amendment.

Carney was present at a meeting between Speaker Pelosi and three anti-choice Democrats (Carney, Kathy Dahlkemper and Steve Driehaus). The fact that he came out of this and decided to vote Yes bodes well for the Democratic leadership.

In addition, Jim Costa and Henry Cuellar decided to lend their support to the bill, but I already had them in the count as Yes votes (Cuellar actually announced yesterday, I believe).

Seeing fellow Californian Costa come home, and with Dennis Cardoza’s main complaint, the deem and pass strategy, rendered moot by the House leadership going away from that path, I think we can confidently put Cardoza down as a Yes, too.

The new count is 204 Yes, 205 No, with now 12 undecided and 10 assumed in the Stupak bloc.

This is the INternal Health Service. Please extinguish that Kool. You are forbidden to smoke indoors or out as it is bad for your health and costly for the people. Your weight will also increase because of what you have in that bag. We'll be regulating weight next year.

You know what, people are f-ing fooling themselves if they don't think this kind of BS will in fact happen. Also, it's no secret that the bulk of Medicare outlays are in the last few months of a person's life. Who in their right mind doesn't think that these death panels will be a reality, you know cost containment and all.

GOD I HATE THESE PEOPLE

My point is He is his own God and his own church... He only worships himself. The sermon we are witnessing from Obama right now is his attempt to evangelize us all into joining the church of Obama.

I never realized til now that Anthony Weiner really isn’t that smart.

He sure likes to hear himself talk, though.

Shoot, where's a good ol F5 tornado when you need one?

OTOH, hold off on that request for now, until the patriots are gone.

Skelton to Introduce Legislation to Protect TRICARE

Washington, D.C.—Today, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) released the statement below regarding his intent to introduce legislation to explicitly state in law that TRICARE and the DOD nonappropriated fund (NAF) health plans meet all of the health care requirements currently under consideration by Congress for individual health insurance. These programs provide health coverage to members of the military and their families, military retirees and their families, and employees of U.S. military post/base exchanges and other nonappropriated fund activities.

“Our nation’s military provides us with first-class protection, and it is our obligation to provide them—and their families—with first-class health care in return. While some of this Committee’s members may disagree on overall health care reform, we are united in our commitment to ensuring that any measure signed into law will not have any unintended consequences that adversely impact the military health care programs for our men and women in uniform and their families.

“Although the health care legislation passed by the House explicitly exempted TRICARE from being affected, the Senate bill did not. Unfortunately, the parliamentary rules of the reconciliation process did not allow for the inclusion of language that specifically protects these programs. To reassure our nation’s service members and their families that their health coverage will remain unaffected by this, I will introduce legislation this week to explicitly state that TRICARE and the NAF health plans meet all requirements for individual health insurance; this language will also be included in this year’s national defense authorization bill.”
