House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Friday that the public health insurance option will not be included in a package of fixes to healthcare reform legislation.
Pelosi's comments throw a wrench into liberal efforts to reintroduce it to the bill. She shut the door on a possible pathway opened by Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who said earlier on Friday that he would "aggressively" push senators to vote for the plan if the House included it in the fixes.
"We had it, we wanted it ... it's not in the reconciliation," Pelosi said at her weekly press briefing. "It isn't in there because [the Senate doesn't] have the votes to have it in there."
Momentum had been building to reintroduce the government-run plan. Over 40 senators have endorsed a letter sponsored by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) that called for senators to pass the public option using the budget reconciliation process.
But the number of senators who backed the plan falls short of the 50 needed to pass the package, assuming Vice President Joe Biden votes to break a tie.
House Democrats are planning to pass the Senate bill and a package of fixes to it, which the Senate will pass using the reconciliation process, allowing them to sidestep a Republican filibuster with a simple majority vote.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) removed the public option from the Senate's bill in December because he could not attract enough centrist support for the overhaul with it included.
Pelosi gave solace to supporters of the public option, saying that its intent will largely be fulfilled with other provisions in the bill.
"While it may not have a public option, we have a purpose of the public option served by the exchanges" and other reforms, she said.

In other words, "We'll jerk them around later!"
Timothy Leary was right (in a leftist kind of way) when he said,
Dont trust anyone over 30 ... years in office.
Dont trust anyone over 30 ... years as a liberal professor.

As many times as this has changed how can it be close to what was voted on.
Lets face it... the "public option" is already in health care TODAY without this bill. Get the hell out of health care, period. And lets get back to the feds doing what's in Art 1 Section 8.
Since I don’t think I could throw her very far... The question a reporter should have asked her is, “Would you agree to language in the bill expressly forbiding a public option?”
JFC, this thing has been gutted how many times now? Reintroduced with so many changes that no one has a clue what’s really in it. What purpose does this serve? The original intent has been completely lost in order to get anything passed.
They need stop scrap this f’ing thing and start over and actually create something that will actually work! That’s what the American people want!
Geesh, this whole thing is mind boggling!!!
Just a general rule-of-thumb for those who may not have been around very long: When the story keeps changing everything being said is a LIE.
Everything being said by Pelosi, obozo, reed is a LIE.
This government can’t be trusted. Time for it to go.
They only wanted the Camel’s nose under the tent, the big toe in the water without taking the whole plunge....they knew it might ‘take 10-20 years’ to get to universal healthcare, per Obama...

I call that the mentally deranged list. Or the gang that couldn’t shoot straight. They’re a bunch of incompentents that couldn’t pass gas if not for their aids.

In the case of StealthCare, it is a good thing.
Right. We don't want the stink’n government healthcare bill passed no matter what's in it. If nothing has been learned through this ram process is that our government is not listening to the people and they want the ultimate control. So, NO, Pelosi we don't want your stink’n bill no how, no way.
PASS THE SENATE BILL AS IS FIRST. RECON WILL NOT HAPPEN AFTER THAT.
No it hasn't. The original intent was to get a way to TAX the public for HEALTH CARE.
That's why they don't care 'whats' in the bill and will make changes later. The parts they don't care about are the parts where you actually get some of the health care you will be paying for (or someone else gets the care you are paying for) are the parts that are 'to be decided'.
The part where they start taking YOUR MONEY begins as soon as they pass it. THIS has been the point all along. Organized Crime and Organized Government have raided the kitty for SO LONG that there is almost no money left. THEY MUST REPLENISH THE KITTY. Health Care is just the latest 'way' to do so.
But Obama promised not to sign a bill w/o a public option.
Absolutely correct. And Cap and Tax will be the same thing. More control and more taxes. Milton Friedman when once asked how we have avoided complete socialist takeover said one of the great things about Americans is how we innovate and discover ways to avoid government intrusion. These f#ckers haven't seen nothin yet.
I think she is lying.
“I think she is lying.”
This lie will accomplish two things; give the blue dogs cover and energize the socialist base and their little meat puppets. This thing is not over yet...

Code Red - House Target List on Health Care
The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obamas announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the fixer bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.
