Rep. Paul Ryan says that Democrats are ready to ram a "shell" health care bill through the Budget Committee, on which he serves as ranking Republican member, to use as a vehicle to impose national health care.
In a phone interview with TAS Thursday afternoon, Ryan said that he expects Democrats to begin the complex process on Monday, under which they would have the Budget Committee approve a phantom bill by midnight, which they will then send over to the Rules Committee. At that point, the Rules Committee will strip out all of the language in the phantom bill, and insert the changes to the Senate bill that Democrats have negotiated.
"They don't have the votes right now, but they're creating the vehicle so that they can airdrop in whatever changes they want," Ryan said.
He said that Republicans are outnumbered 2-to-1 on his committee and don't have the votes to stop the bill there. Democrats will also be able to prevent Republicans from offering any amendments, but GOP members will be able to offer "motions to instruct" the Rules Committee, that Ryan said will be used highlight problems with the "unprecedented" step that Democrats are taking.
He said he expected Democrats to dust off last year's health care bills from the Education and Labor and Ways and Means Committees, to use as the vehicle for reconciliation changes.
He also warned against focusing too much on the reconciliation process in the Senate. "Reconciliation is a distraction," he said. "Once the House passes the Senate bill we have the massive new entitlement."

Uh, if it were that easy, I do think Mr. Ryan would have done that by now.
This is another reason why we have to stop Obambicare. That puts us in a much stronger position to continue to crush his Marxist agenda.
We have to fight til the end. The only way out is THROUGH!
May? Seven Days?
Great quote & so true!
And we agree! So, let’s fight the battle, our country, our way of life, our America! It’s all in jeopardy. The right of liberty is threatened. Why did we fight a revolution? I suppose <250 of democracy needs a tazar now and then, now’s our time. The dems don’t realize, you don’t mess with our freedoms. We’re way past the point of ‘no more’. We’ve hit our breaking point.
Normally, I’d say that was OTT. But, no. It’s dead on. At some point, when laws are being “enacted” without our representatives voting on them, yes, it is martial law.
Somebody today on the radio, Rasmussen, I think, on Hannity, said there hasn’t been this big a gap between the governed and the government since the Colonists rebelled against King George. God, he’s right.
The Colonists formed a new country over the idea of “no taxation without representation.” Today we are at just “NO REPRESENTATION PERIOD”?
What is going on here?
Stalling is a very important tactic!
I think the Parliamentarian nixed the Slaughter Solution. Don’t recall for sure.
Ryan is supposed to be on Hannity tonight. He may explain this further and talk about what we can do to stop it.
Sen. Jim DeMint came up with that plan after doing a lot of research and study of the rules. But it is a way, if the Repubs actually kept offering amendments, to stall *reconciliation* indefinitely. AT least that’s my undrestanding (lord, this is complicated).
Whether it applies to this shell game Ryan is describing, I don’t know.
Ya think?
Thast's the one he keeps in his invisible empty suit? The one he's wearing in these pictures?
Our government (dems) has decided they’ll rule, people drool. Only one mistake, so sorry, no way, we won’t accept it. We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore. I guess that’s a big oops they overlooked. We’re not rolling over. We left Europe because of that. 250 years isn’t that long ago in the history of Western Civ. Some of us ARE teaching our children our history.
They BELIEVE (as fervently as we believe in a balanced budget) that National Healthcare is in the nations best interest.
Your first point, I agree with.
Your second point, I think is irrelevant. They may believe it's in the nation's best interest, but only because they believe that INFINITE RAT RULE is in the nation's best interest. This is nothing but a grab for PERPETUAL POWER.
Excellent!
Tweet this as well, those of you on Twitter.
Ohhhhh, shame on you! You make These Honorable Congressmen, good friends of John McCain one & all, sound unAmerican!
We had people on here think it was a great idea for them to be in charge as well to teach Republicans a lesson. Even to this day we have people attacking Republicans when they have been standing up and make few comments against the Democrats.
Makes you wonder about that mentality but they are the first to say dump the RINO’s. Personally I would rather dump someone who wants to teach Republicans a lesson and is always critizing them while giving the Dems a pass and by not voting gave us the Progressive Democrats.
No, they don't. As Dennis Prager pointed out in a recent column, these are leftists and they hate every aspect of American society and wish to destroy it. With national healthcare, they have everyone by the short hairs, don't you understand?
