Democratic leaders have given up trying to satisfy Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., and the dozen or so House Dems who want strict language barring abortion funding in the health care bill, AP reports. A break on abortion would remove a major obstacle for Democratic leaders in the final throes of a yearlong effort to change health care in the United States. But it sets up a risky strategy of trying to round up enough Democrats

Do Dems think they can round up the votes? Maybe they're just looking for a scapegoat.

And this will work for them?

Blue dogs will become Dead Dogs in November if they can't find a way to get off this runaway train. The earlier ruling by the Parliamentarian was probably music to their ears.
To: Eric in the Ozarks
Many may still end up dead dogs.

However, without the dozen or so Stupak Democrats, its very, very hard to see how Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., rounds up a majority. Shell need to get roughly the same number of Democrats who voted no on the House bill in November to vote yes this time without any other defections. But this is the one group of Democrats who can go to voters in the fall and say they never voted for ObamaCare. Many of them represent districts that John McCain carried in 2008. Several others hail from areas where President Obamas approval ratings are likely under 50%. interesting.

Many will end up as dead dogs because the voters will be looking to exterminate anything with a D by its name to get at Obozo, Pelosi and Reid. This election already is nationalized, the voters are steamed up as never before and the Rats will long for the days of Nov 1994 after this electoral disaster hits them.

Just heard on the radio news. Harry Reid said they will use reconcillation. There will be a simple majority vote.Assuming it gets out of the House. Personally, I think this helps Democrats who are looking for political cover to vote no. They can now say that they liked portions of the bill, but didn't think that the process was fair and they voted against it.
I think Reid just shot Pelosi in the foot.

The Pubbies said they will not vote to amend the bill, they want no part of it. Bart is on his own, without a majority of Pubbies any stronger abortion language is dead. The death rattle is sounding for this mess. Good developments today.
