On the anniversary of her conviction for using a Web site to solicit sex, Amber Sommer fka Amber Carter, 36, again was the subject of a criminal investigation involving her Internet activity.
Tuesday, the former elementary teacher was charged with misdemeanor child endangering as local authorities continue their investigation.
At this point, there is no evidence of more serious offenses, Bellefontaine Police Chief Brad Kunze said Tuesday night. The investigation is continuing, he noted.
He disputed a media report that the defendant made a videotape and transmitted it via the Internet to a male suspect in Dayton.
Police investigators learned March 2 of a potential scheme between Ms. Sommer and the Dayton suspect involving children.
Ms. Sommer’s boyfriend, Anthony McLaughlin alerted officers who then worked with the Bellefontaine Municipal Court to seize a laptop from the couple’s Bellefontaine residence and arrest her on a probation violation.
She has been lodged in the Logan County Jail since on a probation violation.
The investigation expanded Friday when police detectives from here and Dayton served a search warrant in the Montgomery County city.
A computer was seized there. Both devices will be submitted for forensic evaluation.
The day before, Logan County Children’s Service filed an emergency shelter care request regarding Ms. Sommer’s two children with the Logan County Family Court.
Judge C. Douglas Chamberlain said he granted the request and placed the boys with their maternal grandparents who live outside Logan County.
Ms. Sommer was a former Bellefontaine City School’s teacher whose 13-year career came to an end after she was arrested Feb. 10, 2009, for prostitution and unauthorized use of school property.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office followed a tip that she was using computers, include a school-owned unit, to arrange sex-for-pay through Craigslist, an online site for selling goods and social networking.
She resigned after her arrest and later lost her state license to teach.

BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio — It was a delicate conversation, to be sure.
The principal tried to tell a class of fourth-graders why their teacher was absent, arrested just after lunch and hauled to jail.
She couldn’t come right out and tell them that Amber Carter, a 13-year employee of the Bellefontaine City School District, apparently was arrested in a sex sting at the local Super 8 Motel just after noon Tuesday. More:

News Center 7 obtained a police report that details the alleged scheme. Police believe Sommer was planning to offer her children up for sex. She claimed she was part of what she called a “slave master relationship” and was under the control of a Dayton man.
News Center 7 had a camera crew at her home last Friday night in Dayton as detectives from Bellefontaine served a search warrant at the home. More:

Court records stated that Sommer promised to have sex with a child and send the man in Dayton pictures of them.
Court records also stated, Sommer was arranging to take another child shopping in Dayton, where the man would pretend to hold her at gunpoint, unless the child performed sexual acts on him.
