For every voter who strongly favors the plan, two are strongly opposed.

One of the more amazing aspects of the health-care debate is how steady public opinion has remained. Despite repeated and intense sales efforts by the president and his allies in Congress, most Americans consistently oppose the plan that has become the centerpiece of this legislative season.

The President may view his party's majorities in Congress, and even his own prospects for re-election, as expendable. But Mr. Obama is proving himself stubborn in his efforts to force Congress into adopting the kind of bill Americans do not want.

If he does not stop this tomfoolery, his presidency will be indelibly marked as a hard-headed, out-of-touch, and irrational. The damage he is doing to his party and his place in history will be beyond repair.

He has lost the debate in the eyes of the American people, whether he accepts that or not.

His only option is to ram it down the throats of the American people. He knows it and they know it. The numbers reflect that.

I remain amazed at this guy and his administration’s breathtaking misread of the electorate.

What. An. Idiot.

But the bigger problem is that people simply don't trust the official [cost/budget] projections.

I am proud of Americans. They see the sham and know that they are being snowed by the administration. As they say, "Doing math in public is a bad idea." Fortunately, Obama can't add and the folks see it.

"He has lost the debate in the eyes of the American people, whether he accepts that or not. "

That bears repeating.

I’m not sure his misread is that certain. I think his mission for the country was going to happen come hell or high water. He didn’t plan on an informed American citizen to be able to see thru his evil plans.

The damage is done; no repairs possible EVER. Treason is treason and, in the eyes of American patriots, he’s TOAST as is this Congress.

Obama is NOT "misreading the electorate".

He doesn't care what we think. He wants what he wants.

And he doesn't care how many institutions he has to break to get it.

Obama is going at breakneck speed to enslave the hard working economic producers and investors in this country before too many people figure out what he is doing. Obamacare is the centerpiece of his program. He want to control energy by skyrocketing prices and take everyone’s investments. We are on the precipice looking downward into a bottomless nothing and hopefully there is still a possibility that he will fail.

Make no mistake, just as Mark Steyn put it: if he succeeds in ramming it through the Manchurian Candidate will have achieved his goal.

The tipping point into Eurosocialism will have been reached. The government will then have life-and-death control over us all. The Repub majority will never get up the cojones to repeal it and the Party of Government will be back in power after a few years in the wilderness. This time for good and all.

Unfortunately, Eurosocialism cannot work in a nation of 307 million, health care in this country will collapse utterly, along with the economy, as doctors leave the profession en masse and hospitals, clinics and practices shut their doors and Medicare and Medicaid go bankrupt.

Then a beautiful utopia will arise from the ashes and a glorious brave new dawn will break upon us.

All hail the New Order!!!

We need to fight this bill tooth and nail, but I am not quite as pessimistic as you. If what you assert above is true, then we have reason to be pessimistic. However, the consequences on the economy will be dire. People will throw out the dems and the Republicans will repeal it. Unfortunately it may take a decade or two.

From the replies it would seem that the problem with the government today is that they do not fear the electorate.

That can and should change.

This bill should be doa.

Socialism only serves to help a selected few and probably not any of us; while captialism gives everyone the opportunity to go as far as they want.

I think the Dems and Obama really believe that if they can ram this through, they will take a temporary electoral loss.

But eventually, the public will “come to their senses” and realize what a wonderful sacrifice these political martyrs made and will ultimately vote them back into the majority (in order to keep the evil Republicans from taking away government healthcare)...forever and ever.

That is the delusion I believe they are operating under.
