The result is a kind of two-party one-party state: Right-of-center parties will once in a while be in office, but never in power, merely presiding over vast left-wing bureaucracies that cruise on regardless.
Republicans are good at keeping the seat warm. A bigtime GOP consultant was on TV, crowing that Republicans wanted the Dems to pass Obamacare because it's so unpopular it will guarantee a GOP sweep in November.
OK, then what? You'll roll it back like you've rolled back all those other unsustainable entitlements premised on cobwebbed actuarial tables from 80 years ago? Like you've undone the federal Department of Education and of Energy and all the other nickel'n'dime novelties of even a universally reviled one-term loser like Jimmy Carter?
Look at it from the Dems' point of view. You pass Obamacare. You lose the 2010 election, which gives the GOP co-ownership of an awkward couple of years. And you come back in 2012 to find your health care apparatus is still in place, a fetid behemoth of toxic pustules oozing all over the basement, and, simply through the natural processes of government, already bigger and more expensive and more bureaucratic than it was when you passed it two years earlier. That's a huge prize, and well worth a midterm timeout.

Mark Steyn you are an idiot.
This is not politics as usual, certainly not like you have in Canada.
I think if this country see’s November elections with blood flowing in the streets will be a miracle.
God, I truly hope I am wrong.
There is not a single person in either party that has my trust, nor the trust of millions of others.
Think about it before you sprout of any other BS

The NAZIs started the whole National Health Care thingy, they saw it as the way to control people. But it quickly cost them too much money. Then came their experiments with Eugenics, which proved too slow to dispose of the undesirables, so they moved on to genocide.
Remember the goal of the NAZIs was to get to the super race.
Perfection of mankind is at the heart of all the two-bit tin pots that have plagued humans through time. And they all have the same ending ... genocide.

He's not. He is playing the same old game that we are all trying to get away from.
The crap he is talking about will only happen if people like you and me let it.
Are you going too? If not, then where is his genius?

Steyn is nobody’s idiot.
This all depends on who gets to run it. Why do you think McLame was the 2008 chosen to lose candidate?

But they won`t, that is Steyn`s point. Even Jefferson in hi State of the Union address called for an amendment for a department of education, Congress said no.
What have the GOP repealed ?
Nothing.
The USA moves 2 steps forward, then the GOP gain power and take a baby step back, if that. Nothing is changing except the size of the Centralized State which only gets bigger.
Said it before say it again, time for the Tea Party to coalesce into a truly Classical Liberal/Constitutional party.

Okay, I mean’t the day following this bill comming into law (if) the GOP speaks of nothing else than repeal for the next 2 yrs and wash their hands clean

Unlike the Stupid Party and timid conservatives, the Left understands power exists to advance their agenda. They can relax about conservatives because in their two party one party state, the Right will be good managers of the statist status quo. The GOP has never once rolled back Big Government. So why not go for broke? The Democrats understand their opposition better than their opposition understands them.

Any federal version of health care is unconstitutional since Article 1 Section 8 does not specifically grant Congress the power to regulate health care. People are not bound to comply with any unconstitutional act by Congress. This is the point people need to hammer home with their Congress critters!

Politics as usual. Do you have any idea how pi$$ed the one in six are who don't have jobs? Or of the countless who have lost houses, but even more than that, the sheer number being told what they can or cannot do. If we do nothing, we are no better than the jews being led to the gas chambers. And how dare we tell our military that we are proud of them for protecting our country, when it is NOT the same AMERICA upon return that it was when they left

Yes, I believe Steyn is correct. It's not absolutely impossible to roll back government but very difficult. If the damn thing turns out to be a disaster as I'm sure it will, then it can be rolled back.
Obama is demonstrating that he is a total ideologue. He is willing to sacrifice his presidency for this. He will surely be defeated in 2012 but I believe he believes people will have forgotten about this by then. Social Security wasn't as big a deal as people's health care. People will recoil in horror when they get this. And there won't be any passing of the buck. It will fall on the Democrats and the Democrats ONLY. The people will take it out on them. Or will they? Only time will tell.

Yep, I am sick of people telling me how it is going to be.
Does Mark Know. If then how does he know? If he knows so much, then why not tell us how to stop it, either this time around or the next. But STOP it, turn it around and NOY settle. Becasue if we settle, every life lost fighting for this country was in vain.
