Palin Knocks "Em Dead on 'Tonight Show'
Big Hollywood ^ | March 4, 2010 | John Nolte

Posted on 03/04/2010 8:53:24 PM PST by This Just In

Wow. This audience loves her and only grows to love her more as the interview rolls on. About ten minutes in she shows more guts than any politician maybe ever by agreeing to make her stand up debut … on The Tonight Show … in front of a Los Angeles audience. What poise.

If Sarah Palin can win over this audience in this way in one of the bluest regions of the country, if I were Barbara Boxer I’d be pretty worried right now.

Something’s in the air.

Kudos as always to Jay Leno for being the consummate gentlemen. During the interview he’s curious, respectful, let’s her talk, and just probing enough for this kind of setting. Imagine David Letterman in this situation. With one eye on impressing his fellow Manhattan Elites, he’d have been a nauseating mixture of lecherous and cruel. Jon Stewart would’ve made a lot of faces, Bill Maher’s head would’ve exploded, and Stephen Colbert would’ve made fun of Trig.

If Leno thought the Beautiful People were out to get him before, his respectful treatment of Sarah Palin should forever seal his fate as The Outsider. He must have missed the Hollywood Memo declaring that its child-raping directors you make look good, not self-made governors.

UPDATE: Ed Morrisey makes a keen observation:

The Right Scoop captured last night’s canny performance from Sarah Palin on Jay Leno’s renewed Tonight Show. How canny? She manages to tie her treatment by the media to the mostly unfair treatment Leno himself got from the entertainment media, a good way to gain the audience’s sympathy.

Yup. Just keep underestimating our Sarah.

Surprisingly, I didn’t hear any boos from the audience, which I thought I would w/ it being from SoCal.

She had a lot of support

Perhaps California is not-so-blue as we might think these days.

California is a blue as blue can get. We have had massive numbers of new immigrants arrive who have been converted over into zombies for the Democrats. The Republicans will have to be very lucky to win any statewide elections. It's the demographics stupid (not you Qwackertoo). So the best we can hope for statewide election is a guy like Tom Campbell who is fiscally conservative but generally moderately liberal on social issues.

Sara Palin (and I like her) isn't going to have one bit of impact here. The 20% of people here who love her were going to vote conservative anyway. She's had no effect here. The Democrats here are going to press the D button in November and that's that. We could have 25% unemployment and we could have the most crazy wacko running with a D beside his/her name and the people would vote Democratic. Trust me I live here and I know the average California voter and they are knuckle-heads in the extreme. It will take a generation to undo this damage and personally I believe California has a better chance of leaving the Union than turning conservative. That's that. It's the demographics-stupid (again not you Qwackertoo).

Just curiously, did the change for the worse politically in California come about rather suddenly in your estimation or was it more of a gradual erosion?

I ask because here in Texas, we've had much the same demographic shift experienced by California.

Usually, it doesn’t take long to figure out what someone is up to. Sarah’s got me stumped...

She's playing by different rules.

On Sarah Palin’s next public appearance, I believe she should write on her palm,

“Talk to the hand”

I should state that I’m not a Sarah Palin worshipper, not that I’m criticizing those who are. To each his own...

A "Sarah Palin worshipper?"

Do you have a head wound?

Of course I do.

BTW, are you a Sarah Palin worshiper? Are you trying to say that there are no such thing as a Sarah Palin worshiper? If your answer is yes, you haven’t read enough threads/comments on the subject.

While that specific stance is laudable, the ``Boystown'' and ``Hot for Hillary'' stuff is far from Conservative in my estimation...

"Far from conservative" would describe 75% of the media today.

Where do you intend to draw your principled line?

As soon as they tell us they’re “Christian” or a “Christian Conservative” you know they’re Troll Trash or possibly Traulls (Ron Paul Trolls). They always say too much.

Oh, I don't know...are you a troll?

I am an unapologetic Sarah Palin SUPPORTER. She is the promise...not the reality, the potential...of a new political dynamic. She could be Reaganesque in her ability to dominate and define a political issue. She's already shown the ability..."death panel."

She seemingly understands that conservatives have to communicate outside traditional media. She's shown herself willing and able to do so. She's connected conservative belief to people's lives.

But there's a long way to go before 2012, and she may show herself to not be the equal of the task. She's still learning by trial and error, which is necessary when you don't have a how-to manual.

So, I'm a Palin supporter. I don't know what the future holds. Neither do you.

So when I see a backhanded slam against Palin supporters, I naturally wonder...what do they support? The right to make condescending remarks? Do you think it makes you look intelligent?

We've got all the cynics we need, spunky. You aren't adding anything of value.

It's a function of immigration. That's why nothing has been done about immigration. The Democrats knew that the more immigrants that we have, the better their chances for victory. They completely outsmarted the Republicans in this area.

You see that it's very easy to take these immigrants (legal & illegal) and convert them to Democrats. The something for nothing concept is easily embraced by the less sophisticated types. Many of the immigrants come from countries where the government has a huge role in running things so it's a normal thing for them to expect something from government. Very few of these people have heard of Adam Smith, Thomas Jefferson, or Milton Friedman. They will OVERWHELMING VOTE LIBERAL by sheer instinct.

Don't listen to this garbage preached by the neo-cons about immigrants adding something to the culture or to our civilization. Total garbage. Yes a tiny amount of them make contributions, but as a whole we've lost far more than what we've gained. These immigrants didn't come to US because they wanted political freedom or a chance to participate in a free market economy of a democratic republic. They came for the "goodies" handed out by government. That's why so many states with high immigrant rates are in financial trouble.

No California is being transformed into a total welfare state because of this demographic change. I've been looking at the voting patterns of many areas. If you look at areas that have traditional population's that is those who have been in US for generations you will see Conservatives. If you look in districts with high rates of immigrants, like Nancy Pelosi's district you will see huge numbers of people who were not born or educated in the US.

Demographics is destiny.

Hey there re_nortex. Welcome to FR (2/9/2010). I like to be a kind of welcome wagon to fellow Christians. Come to think of it though, most of us don't trumpet that out like you have right away, especially being such a newbie too?!

And you seem to be very confident already about FR and who should post what, and from whom, and even suggesting "disallow"???!!!!! What about FREE don't you get?

Well again, welcome. I'll keep an eye out for you. You know how us Christians condemn "lifestyles" and how "the Bible speaks ... in no uncertain terms".

oh, and p.s. When you mention a FReeper's name (MR. Robinson), it is polite to 'ping' them.

You're, of course, absolutely right on this matter of the ``FREE'' in Free Republic and in our nation.

My posting last night in the matter of HillBuzz was in haste and just plain wrong. The competition of freely expressed ideas is what makes FR so thought-provoking and interesting. That birdbrained notion of mine about ``disallowing'' certain sites smacks of book burning. I know better than that and should have thought about what I wrote instead of letting a visceral reaction guide my actions.

So this is not one of those ``I apologize if you were offended'' statements. I just flat out apologize to all without any additional qualification.
