I’m not convinced of the birther stuff but there’s no good reason not to support something like this. If done right, there’s nothing proactive about this on the state’s part, everything would be on the candidate, so it can’t be argued (sanely) that this would be a waste of a state’s resources.
South Carolina has a law requiring people who seek the overthrow of the government to register with the state. If they don’t pass this, no one will.
