I will respectfully assert that now, having been reelected twice, Perry will feel empowered and emboldened to do things that are quite different from what is on your conservative agenda.
See posts 380 and 398. conimbricenses has a pretty good handle on Perry.

I'm not a huge fan of Perry's, though I did vote for him because the other two on the ballot were just out of the question for me.
But I wouldn't say conimbricenses has a great handle on Perry, either. She comes across as a bitter Medina supporter and is likely to tinge any opinions today with hurt and anger.
Perry's done OK by Texas and it's really the Lt. Governor and the legislature that wields power anyway.
I do not want to see Perry aspire to higher positions in Washington, however. I won't support him on any quests of that nature.
You refer me to another posters opinions. That's fine. Here are mine:
Franchise tax..no argument. They were raised in a manner that affected every business in Texas.
Appointment of a pro-choice judge. I had to google that one. I assume that refers to a temporary appointment of Guzman. I don't know the lady's opinion on the subject, but at this time RvW is the law. She should not have the power to interject her own opinion from the bench. (not that I agree with RvW).
The Hate Crime Bill signed into law was resultant from the James Byrd death by dragging and was very high profile in Tx. I am ambivalent about “hate crimes”. In reality, all crimes are”hate crimes”. But a man, because of his race, was drug to death behind a pick up. I don't think the perpetrators would have received a lesser sentence if Mr. Byrd had been white or purple or green. Non-issue.
The Guardisal vaccine is also a non-issue. Perry's “mandate” included an opt-out clause. Then it was struck down by the Texas Congress. Like I said, he is governor...not KING.
Amnesty? Perry is no worse and maybe a little better than the other four we had to choose from. White and Shami? Hutchison..try giving your opinion to her about amnesty..you will be insulted. Medina? Who the heck really knows?
The fact that Perry was a Dem in 1988, 22 years go, really doesn't phase me. He MAY have shifted with the political wind. But so did Reagan, did he not?
I would like another choice, but Perry has not done a bad job. Texas is in good shape by comparison to other states. If the worst criticism he garners in the last 10 years are two dead issues (Gaudisil and the TCC) that's not a bad track record in my book. The worst thing he is..is arrogant. But so are most politicians.
I will not courtesy ping conimbricenses, since you failed to do so.
