Filiberto Ojeda Rios was a young trumpet player in Chicago when he was involved in the efforts of the revolutionary Cuba intelligence in that city to promote independent sentiment in that city, and after that, he came back to Puerto Rico and founded what was known as the Ejercito Popular Boricua Macheteros, the clandestine sector of the nationalist movement in Puerto Rico that was responsible, as you know, for several successful attacks, including the blowing up of several airplanes in the military base in San Juan for $45 million, and later for the assault of a truck, a brinks truck in Hartford, Connecticut, also successful, again, in the course of independence.

He was tried for those events in a federal court in Puerto Rico, and he was absolved unanimously by a Puerto Rican jury.

The original org doesn’t exist anymore, but the people who belonged to it are still very much active and “progressive” just like the weathermen don’t exist anymore. What they think and believe has never changed.

They are trying to spin Puerto Rico as “conservative”. I know they are religious, but conservative?

What is MEChA

Snip: The myth of Aztlan can best be explained by California's Santa Barbara School District's Chicano Studies textbook, "The Mexican American Heritage" by East Los Angeles high school teacher Carlos Jimenez. On page 84 there is a redrawn map of Mexico and the United States, showing Mexico with a full one-third more territory, all of it taken back from the United States. On page 107, it says "Latinos are now realizing that the power to control Aztlan may once again be in their hands."

Shown are the "repatriated" eight or nine states including Colorado, California, Arizona, Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and parts of Washington. According to the school text, Mexico is supposed to regain these territories as they rightly belong to the "mythical" homeland of Aztlan. On page 86, it says "...a free-trade agreement...promises...if Mexico is to allow the U.S. to invest in Mexico...then Mexico should...be allowed to freely export...Mexican labor. Obviously this would mean a re-evaluation of the border between the two countries as we know it today." Jimenez's Aztlan myth is further amplified at MEChA club meetings held at Santa Barbara Public Schools..

The book, paid for by American tax payers, cites no references or footnotes, leaving school children totally dependent on their teacher to separate fact from opinion and political propaganda. The book teaches separatism, victimization, nationalism, completely lacks patriotism towards the United States, and promotes an open border policy. The book is 100 percent editorial -- the opinions of the author.

"La Raza" (The Race) is a broad term which refers to those whose ancestry is indigenous to the area of Mexico (or "Aztlan"). MEChA members refer to themselves as "La Raza" or "Raza," but the term itself is used to indicate camaraderie among those in different organizations with the same objectives. There are a number of organizations who consider themselves to be La Raza.

The most visible of these groups are MEChA, The Brown Berets de Aztlan, OLA (Organization for the Liberation of Aztlan), La Raza Unida Party, and the "Nation of Aztlan" to name a few.  Although the activism of these organizations vary from somewhat radical to extremely radical, they share the same objectives, the "liberation of Aztlan."  Each follows the Raza manifesto "El Plan de Aztlan (sometimes called "El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan"). The Nation of Aztlan, tied to La Voz de Aztlan disseminates the exact same propaganda that MEChA spreads including antisemitic propaganda. Believers in the Aztlan legend insist upon the indivisibility of "La Raza" and their common goals, one of them being the need to abolish the border between the U.S. and Mexico. There is a myriad of Raza college newspaper. Some are El Popo, Aztlan News, Chispas, Gente de Aztlan (UCLA), Voz Fronteriza (U.C. San Diego), La Voz Mestiza (U.C. Irvine) and La Voz Berkeley. It is not uncommon for the writers of these publications to refer to the U.S., as "AmeriKKKa."

Rhetoric by some Chicano educators strongly suggest Communist or Socialist leanings. In May, 2000, more than 1,200 students gathered at UCLA for the seventh annual Raza Youth Conference, which the members say promotes higher education and recognition of the Aztlan culture. .....

Darder described American capitalism and what she said were its impacts on racism and sexism. "I grew up in a capitalist society, a society that taught us that the greed of corporations control politics," Darder said. "Capitalism is the root of domination. Racism and sexism exist because capitalism requires it." Darder said a globalized economy forced smaller countries to give up their self-sufficiency, resulting in people migrating to the U.S. "We're here because U.S. foreign policy in Latin America has forced us here," she said.

MEChA is an Hispanic separatist organization that encourages anti-American activities and civil disobedience. The radical members of MEChA who refer to themselves as "Mechistas," romanticize Mexican claims to the "lost Territories" of the Southwestern United States -- a Chicano country called Aztlan. In its national constitution, MEChA calls for self-determination by its members to liberate Aztlan. MEChA's national constitution starts out: "Chicano and Chicana students of Aztlán must take upon themselves the responsibilities to promote Chicanismo within the community, politicizing our Raza with an emphasis on indigenous consciousness to continue the struggle for the self-determination of the Chicano people for the purpose of liberating Aztlán."

Movimentide Resistencia Popular Mundeal - Let us build the World People's Resistance Movement (translated)

Sniip: The progressive forces of each country are facing a great challenge. The leader of the gang warned that "you are either with us or against us". Long before September 11, the injustice of world order, where a small handful of lives and misery of working people in the world, has called for resistance. Millions of people were already in motion and the need for world unity was already visible. And now it's even clearer that the way to social progress and liberation can not avoid a direct confrontation with the U.S. driven machine.

Research Guide to the Records of MALDEF - Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (1968-1983) at Stanford University

Snip: This series is comprised of correspondence with consultants, proposals for grants, and information on fundraising efforts and events. Files containing information about individual donor contributions are restricted until 2069.

Subversive Alliance - po la Liberacion de la Tierra, Animal y Humana (ASLTAH)

Mexico with its multi-faceted conflicts underway, involving several rival drug cartels, the Mexican armed forces and different police agencies. Apparently gun battles, kidnapping, drug smuggling, murders and bombings are on the rise.

Another group has joined in, the Subversive Alliance for the Liberation of the Earth, Animals and Humans /Alianza Subversiva por la Liberación de la Tierra, Animal y Humana (ASLTAH). This group is becoming quite active; according to Stratfor they're responsible for some 200 acts in 2009.

Regarding Puerto Rico, I’m quoting you here too. You strike me as someone who knows what he’s talking about.

“The so-called “conservative” PNPs have caucused with both the Dems and the GOP and “conservative” Fortuno supports Obamacare.

“Poor nonwhite peoples who speak Spanish do NOT support GOP candidates. A slight majority of PR received the WIC card and are dependent on the Commonwealth for employment (directly or indirectly). PR politics is a world onto itself, and should not be thought of as “conservative” in the sense of Anglo constitutionalist self-reliance.

“I don’t see why someone who opposes DC statehood and the continued invasion from south of our border would support PR statehood.”

Some may not like what I have to say (especially the PNP caucus here on FR, who are otherwise very nice people), but that is my opinion based upon my own experience doing work down there, talking to folks on the island on three sides of the issue, and doing my own research.

From the brief study I did on Puerto Rico, it seems to me that they are mercurial about US power, such as the FBI and military. Are they quick to accuse the US?

Army Preps for Tea Party ‘Terrorists’

This week, I was contacted by a number of civilian and military personnel (enlisted and officer ranks) who expressed concern about a military exercise proposed for Ft. Knox, the U.S. Bullion Depository. (For the record, I called Ft. Knox security for an official comment and received the standard reply: “We are not authorized to discuss this exercise.” The exercise in question may have been one of several proposed security exercise scenarios.) While there is something of a chip on the shoulder attitude toward the gringos in DC, particularly when it seems as though DC is bossing around the islanders (see Vieques), most islanders enjoy the benefits brought by its unique relationship with the US. They can have all of the protection and financial support of the US government, without having to give up their strong cultural identity. This is why status quo has won every ballot they have had on the issue.
