Paul burned by Tea Party blowback By: Alex Isenstadt February 27, 2010 06:29 PM EST
Rep. Ron Paul, the libertarian-oriented Republican whose 2008 presidential run provided kindling for the Tea Party movement, suddenly finds himself dealing with the blowback: a handful of Tea Party-inspired candidates are seeking to dislodge him in Tuesdays Texas Republican primary.
Its an unusual turn of events for a veteran congressman who has reached stardom in conservative populist circles and who just last week emerged as the victor of the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
Yet despite his solid anti-establishment credentials and non-conformist views, Paul finds himself under siege from three Republicans who are embracing many of the themes that have defined Pauls career. At the heart of the resistance is the notion that the 10-term Paul has gone Washington, abandoning his constituents as he pursues his white whalethe presidency.
To be honest, I was surprised when these guys started coming out of the woodwork, said Fort Bend County GOP Chairman Rick Miller. Theyre trying to tap into the idea that its time for a new face. Its a sign of the times. Its whats happening in our country.
Paul remains the favorite in the race but the opposition clearly has him looking over his shoulder.
In a January email alert titled Theyve Turned Their Attack Dogs Loose On Me!, Paul warns that both parties are doing everything they can to make sure I am defeated.
These candidates include three Republicans in my own primary on March 2, he wrote, and they will stop at nothing to tear down and destroy all we have worked for.

What darkies are we killing from a distance?

True, I like what Rush calls Perot, a hand grenade with a bad haircut.
Is it time for the spray?
LOL. I’ve been wondering where you were!
I strenuously object! On behalf of all Focalpoint Challenged Ambliopiac Americans, to your characterization in post #68.
..... and also all the insect lovers out there and their pet roaches .....
Correct me if I'm wrong, but where was Ron Paul on the ballot in November 2008?
Not in my state. Yours maybe?
Oh, I get it. You mean voted for Paul's re-election to Congress from his Texas district.
Well, in that case, of course you are right. Even though his victory over the token Dem was overwhelming, the number of votes he got was far, far fewer than would be needed for McLaim to have beat 0bambi.
And keeping his loony acolytes like Debra Medina out of political office would be a good thing for all of us as well.
Absolutely correct on all points. However, the reforms he was proposing (making it illegal to leave Congress to go to work as a lobbyist "gaming" ths system to the detriment of those who sent you to D.C., the top-to-bottom financial reforms getting Gummint out of both business and our business, etc.,) all were coherently designed to drain the Beltway swamp and return our elected officials to their intended role of representing their constituents.
It was those reforms which I stated we should have passed and stuck to. Many of them were written into the original "Contract with America" which the GOP then failed to pass into Law once the Perot swing-voting bloc gave them the first House-Senate control in 40 years.

I didn't, but most of the Paulestinians on FR don't like me very much. And I'm willing to bet that newbie spammer was a retread. ;-)
And the conservatives want it more than the liberals, Ron. Reality bites, huh?
Hmm, no comments on my rebuttal of the anti-Catholic spewings about Galileo being burned at the stake by the Vatican? Maybe because I linked to a Catholic source? Ok, try this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_Galilei#Church_controversy
Nice RAID can! Very well done!!!
"Ah, but the strawberries! That's, that's where I had them."
Would you explain the reasoning behind that?
That seems pretty far out even for anti paulsters.
Just a thought, but if anything adverse happened to Americans in countries we have been allied with, they weren't worth a damn as allies, were they?
We've been hauling the world's water so long they could die of thirst sitting by the well.
