Paul burned by Tea Party blowback By: Alex Isenstadt February 27, 2010 06:29 PM EST
Rep. Ron Paul, the libertarian-oriented Republican whose 2008 presidential run provided kindling for the Tea Party movement, suddenly finds himself dealing with the blowback: a handful of Tea Party-inspired candidates are seeking to dislodge him in Tuesdays Texas Republican primary.
Its an unusual turn of events for a veteran congressman who has reached stardom in conservative populist circles and who just last week emerged as the victor of the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
Yet despite his solid anti-establishment credentials and non-conformist views, Paul finds himself under siege from three Republicans who are embracing many of the themes that have defined Pauls career. At the heart of the resistance is the notion that the 10-term Paul has gone Washington, abandoning his constituents as he pursues his white whalethe presidency.
To be honest, I was surprised when these guys started coming out of the woodwork, said Fort Bend County GOP Chairman Rick Miller. Theyre trying to tap into the idea that its time for a new face. Its a sign of the times. Its whats happening in our country.
Paul remains the favorite in the race but the opposition clearly has him looking over his shoulder.
In a January email alert titled Theyve Turned Their Attack Dogs Loose On Me!, Paul warns that both parties are doing everything they can to make sure I am defeated.
These candidates include three Republicans in my own primary on March 2, he wrote, and they will stop at nothing to tear down and destroy all we have worked for.

The problem with paranoia is you never notice until it’s too late that people really ARE out to get you.
He makes Ross Perot look sane!!!
‘emerged as the victor of the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference. ‘
What a joke. He probably ducked into the voting booth often :)
I’m going to guess that these are genuine Tea Party inspired people running in the primary as opposed to the Soros crowd running a “Tea Party” line in Nevada and Illinois.
How many of you got the spam RP Reep mail from a noob a few days ago...
Maybe these three should coalesce around one candidate, or does that make too much sense?
“Put him in the toaster.........”
Not likely.
RON PAUL ENDORSED THE TRAITOR ADAM KOKESH FOR CONGRESS IN NEW MEXICO
RON PAUL: THE PARTY OF TRUTHERS AND TRAITORS!!
Gerald Wall, a chemical worker who is also challenging Paul, echoed their criticisms.
The problem with Ron Paul is that he doesnt spend any time representing his people, he said. Everyone knows that if we elect him to Congress he will spend one month in Congress and 18 months running for president.
L Ron Paul’s rep. has long cought up with him.
An old anti war guy who is backed and financed by 9/11 Truthers. A RINO who is a libertarian but uses the
Republican Party to run on.
Ron Paul is the SOB THAT GOT OBAMA ELECTED! PISS ON HIM!
You are correct.
This needs to be repeated often.
Ross Perot was the most sane individual the American political scene ever had the enduring shame of ridiculing. Had we followed his then-recommendations for putting America on the path to fiscal solidity and electoral integrity, we would be better off now, on both counts, than we were then by a factor of 10. At least.
Instead, we enjoyed the short-term gratification of making fun of someone who talked funny, and now our country is about to explode--as everything Perot railed against consumes us like a late-stage cancer gone lymphatic.
Perot seemed crazy, but so did Galileo. Perot got off easy; at least we didn't torture him and burn him at the stake for the "heresy" of stating that the earth revolves around the sun, like the Vatican did poor old Gally. That's right; The Vatican.
In reality, it was the insanity of the snoozing, nearly comatose American electorate that shunned Perot's radical ideas, and set us on the course we now enjoy the ripened fruits of. Sweet, huh?
Nah, I don't think so either.

I didn’t, but the smart Paulines have learned not to ping me. I’m ruthless. But fair. But ruthless.
More delusional "blame anyone but the assh*les responsible" bullsh*t from a tool.
America is that "SOB." Guilt-riddled white "apologists." The GOP for nominating "Kommie Johnny." The GOP voters who stayed home instead of voting just to "make their point."
There were many with that blood on their hands, but Ron "tinfoil hat" Paul was not among them. Take everyone who voted for Paul, give those votes to Kommie John, and Bukkaki Obongo still walks away with it. You stool brain.
;-/
Actually, THAT'S wrong.
Galileo died of old age while under house arrest.
Perhaps you're thinking of Giordano Bruno. He was condemned by the Holy Office and burned at the stake by secular authorities, but NOT because he wrote approvingly of heliocentrism.
You, sir... owe me a new keyboard.
