If Republicans could, surely they would nominate Ronald Reagan for president in 2012. As it appears increasingly likely that Republicans -- conservative Republicans -- will control Congress after the 2012 elections, the only missing element in the political equation is a strong, conservative president like Ronald Reagan. In the mix of possible candidates for 2012, there are some potentially promising people.

I supported Fred Thompson in the last election and he ended up wasting the money I and many other offered him. I will not support him again. I like Fred, but he is going to have to advocate from the sidelines.

How right you are. He became a candidate in 1968 at the Miami Beach Convention. But for Strom Thurmond, he might very well have gotten the nomination. How different history would have been then.

I could vote for Thompson/Palin or Palin/Thompson, but Fred just didn’t seem to have the energy/desire to fight for it.

Fred Thompson? No on the Tennessee Hamlet.

It's good to know I'm not crazy then - but I just can't imagine a more fitting leader to begin to measure up to Ronald Reagan than Duncan.
I hope he runs again ... I'll be pushing for him with everything I have if he does.

There are some good people on this list, but they’re all has-beens and never-will-bes. Already newer stars are starting to rise, including the governors of the Magnolia State and the Big State.

I liked Fred even though I had questions about some of the stupid things he supported with McCain like campaign finance reform. But, like Newt Gingrich, he had his day. He should have won South Carolina or at least came close. Romney had pulled out to concentrate on Michigan. Huck's shtick was starting to wear thin. And people were starting to have second thoughts about McCain.
But Fred's effort in South Carolina was so pathetic, he ran out of gas before Super Tuesday, ceding his own state to the asshat Huckabee.
