The National Weather Service Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami warning for Hawaii and a tsunami advisory for the West Coast of the United States.
A NWS spokesman on CNN says it is estimated the tsunami waves will be 10 to 15 feet high when they hit Hawaii. The tsunmi waves could last up to six hours.
Recent buoy reports of wave heights vary from 5 to 16 feet.

BULLETIN
TSUNAMI MESSAGE NUMBER 7
NWS PACIFIC TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER EWA BEACH HI
148 AM HST SAT FEB 27 2010
TO - CIVIL DEFENSE IN THE STATE OF HAWAII
SUBJECT - TSUNAMI WARNING SUPPLEMENT
A TSUNAMI WARNING CONTINUES IN EFFECT FOR THE STATE OF HAWAII.
SNIP
EVALUATION
A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.
A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST. TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI WAVE MAY TEMPORARILY EXPOSE THE SEAFLOOR BUT THE AREA WILL QUICKLY FLOOD AGAIN. EXTREMELY STRONG AND UNUSUAL NEARSHORE CURRENTS CAN ACCOMPANY A TSUNAMI. DEBRIS PICKED UP AND CARRIED BY A TSUNAMI AMPLIFIES ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER. SIMULTANEOUS HIGH TIDES OR HIGH SURF CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE TSUNAMI HAZARD.
THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME IN HAWAII OF THE FIRST TSUNAMI WAVE IS
1119 AM HST SAT 27 FEB 2010
The NWS has also issued a tsunami warning for most of the Pacific region:

Here is a local report on the West Coast tsunami advisory:
A tsunami advisory has been issued for the California coast, including Del Norte County, following a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck off the central coast of Chile at 10:34 p.m. PST Friday.
The forecasted arrival time for Crescent City is 1:46 p.m. PST Saturday, however tsunamis can be dangerous for many hours after arrival, and the initial wave is not necessarily the largest, the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center says.
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO AREAS WITHIN AND BORDERING THE PACIFIC OCEAN AND ADJACENT SEAS...EXCEPT ALASKA...BRITISH COLUMBIA... WASHINGTON...OREGON AND CALIFORNIA.

He’s making sure all COLB records are kept in the deepest secure rooms available on Hawaii.
My granddaughte in law was awakened with the warning horn..She is near Pearl. My Navy grandson is at sea..Praying for her and all affected.
Check out the Sept 29, 2009 tsunami that hit American Samoa, Samoa & Tongs. Well over 100 killed.
Guess our area is scheduled to be hit at 1:307. This should be interesting since we live about 50 feet up and maybe 300 yards back from the ocean.
Where are you?
He is one sick person, trying to benefit politically from this disaster. “Never waste a good crisis” indeed. Prayers for all affected....that’s a lot of praying...
Good opportunity for hussein’s “birf certificate” to unfortunately be washed out to sea in an unforseen accident.
I can say without virtual certainty....that would basically be frankly IMPOSSIBLE.
Prayers up for all FReepers, FRiends, and everyone in harm’s way.
Good luck y’all, hope it’s nothing more than a small wave
Best Wishes

Luckily the reports are pretty wimpy so far at this point....only 8 feet fairly close to the epicenter.
This will not come close to the infamous Hilo tsunami and will barely even register as bad at all.
That said, anybody on the beach to maybe 100 feet could be swept away, so nobody should be on the beach.
I am looking at a web cam in Kona, anybody have any more web cam links, I’m in Alaska and offhand I don’t know even where Kona is, here is the link of what I have.

Obama to speak at any moment!!! Joy...
Yeah, luckily this is going to be basically a non-event.
The high shore will protect Hawaii in most places, so unless you are within 100 feet, you really aren’t going to be at risk for a puny 6’ tsunami.
