The National Weather Service Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami warning for Hawaii and a tsunami advisory for the West Coast of the United States.
A NWS spokesman on CNN says it is estimated the tsunami waves will be 10 to 15 feet high when they hit Hawaii. The tsunmi waves could last up to six hours.
Recent buoy reports of wave heights vary from 5 to 16 feet.

BULLETIN
TSUNAMI MESSAGE NUMBER 7
NWS PACIFIC TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER EWA BEACH HI
148 AM HST SAT FEB 27 2010
TO - CIVIL DEFENSE IN THE STATE OF HAWAII
SUBJECT - TSUNAMI WARNING SUPPLEMENT
A TSUNAMI WARNING CONTINUES IN EFFECT FOR THE STATE OF HAWAII.
SNIP
EVALUATION
A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.
A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST. TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI WAVE MAY TEMPORARILY EXPOSE THE SEAFLOOR BUT THE AREA WILL QUICKLY FLOOD AGAIN. EXTREMELY STRONG AND UNUSUAL NEARSHORE CURRENTS CAN ACCOMPANY A TSUNAMI. DEBRIS PICKED UP AND CARRIED BY A TSUNAMI AMPLIFIES ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER. SIMULTANEOUS HIGH TIDES OR HIGH SURF CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE TSUNAMI HAZARD.
THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME IN HAWAII OF THE FIRST TSUNAMI WAVE IS
1119 AM HST SAT 27 FEB 2010
The NWS has also issued a tsunami warning for most of the Pacific region:
TSUNAMI BULLETIN NUMBER 006
PACIFIC TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER/NOAA/NWS
ISSUED AT 1147Z 27 FEB 2010
Here is a local report on the West Coast tsunami advisory:
A tsunami advisory has been issued for the California coast, including Del Norte County, following a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck off the central coast of Chile at 10:34 p.m. PST Friday.
The forecasted arrival time for Crescent City is 1:46 p.m. PST Saturday, however tsunamis can be dangerous for many hours after arrival, and the initial wave is not necessarily the largest, the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center says.
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO AREAS WITHIN AND BORDERING THE PACIFIC OCEAN AND ADJACENT SEAS...EXCEPT ALASKA...BRITISH COLUMBIA... WASHINGTON...OREGON AND CALIFORNIA.

I heard a small island off the coast of Chili for hit with a 130 foot wave...is that confirmed?
Worked fine for me...tourists taking pics...walking along the beach next to the water...some guy heading to the water with his surfboard...all acting as if it’s just another day at the beach.
That's a good question. My understanding is the wave amplitude increases as the tsunami moves into shallow water. May not be an issue for Hawaii though.
Didn't Japan get hit with a 7.0 magnitude earthquake yesterday? and now this on top of it...oh my

Thanks so much, I appreciate that information.
Hard to say, now I am thinking it was a metric screwup, might have been something like a 7-16FOOT wave, but if it actually was that big....its gone, only a satellite image will tell us anything.
polosi will probably call for a vote as the tsunami hits Hawaii.....ram it home girl! health care to save the nation!!! hurry the peoples of Hawaii will needz it!!
Ok, thanks. Sometimes my computer won’t play videos...and sometimes it will. Go figure.
Now I am hearing 40 meter for the metric...

I have family members flying home two hours after event. They are one 24th floor so should be safe.
the airports currently closed...the main one...got to believe there will be some delays even if nothing happens
It may be a day or two before we actually get the real measurement, I believe what caused the moderate sized tsunami to hit Hawaii back in the 60’s at Hilo was the result of an undersea mountain collapse off the coast of Peru.
Prayers for all in the warning path!
I think it may just be the traffic they are getting. You might try again in a few minutes and be able to access it.
I’m waiting to see Geraldo in Hawaii - standing on the beach. Its just a matter of time before he shows up.
I’ll probably be here for maybe an hour unless I’m told to move out now by police of someone. I only need to go a couple of miles to get to save land. Suppose to hit at 11:20 and should leave here around 9 to be safe. It isn’t quite 8 yet so will hang around a little longer. Not much panic going on except at gas stations and grocery stores. We are always prepared here at home for these things with batteries, water, extra cans of gas, generator etc. etc. portable radios too. Have friends in a safe area and will go there when the time comes.
Rio is reporting the island chain received a “3” meter tsunami. Far cry from 40m thank God.
